It sounds to me like the thermal cutoff switch has blown. Irons have these as a safety device similar to a fuse to protect against fire in the event the iron gets too hot. These are not very costly to replace. Here is a link to where you can buy them:

http://www.welco.com.cn/?gclid=CJiWv7TN2ZQCFQpzHgodl1LXQQ

Make sure you get one of the exact same cutoff point as the one designed for your Iron. If you put in a higher temp device it will be harder to blow but will make the iron dangerous as it may cause a fire if it over heats. Some shady repair men will just bypass this and the iron will work again fine but this is a dangerous practice as it directly puts you of danger. If you do have it repaired at a shop demand for the old thermal cutoff from your unit when you drop it off so the tech will know you know what is wrong with it and that you will check to make sure that it has really been changed. This will also not give him the chance to over charge you when he knows you know it is only a 1 dollar part and easy to change.
This device is very easy to change, If you can open your iron you could easily do this yourself. The part, as you will see on the site where you buy them, only has 2 wires one comming out of each end. You simply cut out the old 1 and replace it with the new one. You do not even have to worry which end goes where. It is like a fuse, it works the same either direction. You have to buy some wire crimp connector to connect it, you can not just solder it in due to the heat in the iron. In a pinch you could just securely twist the ends of the leads with the leads from the old cutoff if you clip the leads from the old cutoff real close to the device. This will leave you with plenty of wire to get a good twist. I always use the crimp connectors so it looks more professional.
Anyway, I hope you found this to be helpful and if you need more help feel free to ask me. I will stay with you on this until we have it fixed.

Please let me know the make and model of the iron. We have a Delonghi Pro300 and I fashioned an opener out of a 2 inch pvc t that I purchased at Lowes. It allows my wife to open the steam reservoir with no problem.

Philips 6104 duble speed

follow this test and fix it. God bless you
As with many small appliances, regular maintenance makes a dramatic difference in how trouble free your electric iron will be. Even so, things can happen.
If the iron doesn't heat, make sure power is on to the outlet, check the power cord and check the thermostat and replace if necessary.
If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents and flush sediment out of the steam chamber
If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the power cord Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat .
If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle
If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.
If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.

My ultra T-fal iron is leaking right out of the iron, before I turn it on. Should I get a new iron, or can this be fixed?

I believe there`s faulty construction'and the cost to repair is about as costly as a new purchase. The valve that inhibits the water flow apparently is remaining open.

Our philips iron keeps tripping our fuse box - this is the second model (but different model) that has done it - is there any advice you have as to why this keeps happening?

Your circuit is bring overloaded by the iron.Irons use lots of energy They usually use more than half the capacity of most electric circuits.Try it on another circuit or unplug some other heavy energy user on the circuit.Better yet have an electrician have a look on the circuit.

Leaking where the base plate attaches to the upper portion of the iron thus causing all the water to eventually run out onto the iron board or item being ironed. I do not have original receipt or box but...

This is a leak on the seating of the body to the frame and it is possible that the seal is not tight. It can be tightened with the screw fittings inside the handle but if you can get warranty for the Iron it will be bettter than tampering within.
Now for the time being do not use water into the iron but have it dry and sprinkle from outside till you get confirmation from Walmart.

Steam iron is not heating.

Yes you most likely can, they are very simply consisting basically of, a switch, a thermal fuse, a thermostat, and an element.. all wired into the Phase wire, the neutral, is simply the return. Take it apart and draw a diagram of how it all goes together and reverse the procedure.

Iron is out of order

an appliance repair center could probably fix it but you have to consider the cost against a new iron
mostly it is more costly to repair than to fix
