There is an adjustment on the burner or it could be a gas pressure that is too high. What is the model number?

SOURCE: gas cook top

Most of the time when I come out for a service call with this problem, it is usually because the burner cap is not seated properly on the base. Look at the burner and make sure there are no uneven gaps. Most of the time you will have to rotate the burner cap till a notch or pin "seats" into place. Most burner caps just sit on the bases, and so they get knocked off or moved when the cooktop is cleaned or installed. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: flames are extremely uneven and high

okay, DO NOT USE THIS STOVE ON LP GAS.

It's not intended to be used with LP gas, because LP gas requires a smaller orifice than natural gas. Call your propane supplier IMMEDIATELY...DO NOT USE THIS STOVE UNTIL IT IS CONVERTED TO LP GAS (if it's even possible)...this is extremely dangerous and you could hurt yourself if you continue to use LP gas on a stove that was designed to run on natural gas.

Converted HotPoint RGA720 to LP, burners and oven work fine, all pilots flames are still too high?

I have this model too and have had to replace two thermocouples because the pilot is so high it frys them. We replaced the whole modulator last time and it still goes out so I have to relight The pilot is at the lowest setting, it's a GE/Hotpoint issue that was not recalled. I do like the hot 125 degree oven for drying sun dried tomatoes and keeping plates warm.

What you do is tighten down the spud on the oven safety valve. themobilian_221.jpg
Get a good wrench and in the case of propane or LP you tighten down clockwise on that spud. Then open the air shutter all the way.

Remove knob, with flashlight look down top of shaft see a slotted screw that screw is flame adjustment.

To adjust, light burner, turn flame to low, with screwdriver turn screw rite till flame is at desired hight (aprox 2mm). now turn up to high check that high is satisfactory if high is to low then adjust screw. check low again. adjust till both setings are acceptible.
do for all burners

As for holding the knobs that is common with this stove, you could check to see if flame is hitting sensor the burner hole that lines up the sensor may be dirty.
