Name of grease used in older kenmore sewing machines

Thank you. The reason I need th answer is to help repair newer machines with the grease they used to use in the older kenmore machines. It can be mixed with oil and doesn’t become thick and hard over time. This concoction is helpful for use in any machine. It was used years ago by kenmore service people. Even the name of the grease would be helpful. thanks again.

Hello, Bonnie -

If you would add the model number or name of your older Kenmore sewing machine, I might be able to provide you with more specific information. All you need to do is click or tap on Comment and add the model number or name of your Kenmore sewing machine in the Comment box.

Just about any store selling sewing supplies and sewing machine supplies will sell the sewing machine oil and grease which can be used on any sewing machine.

Read instructions here:
https://stitchnerd.wordpress.com/2011/05/29/how-to-oil-a-vintage-sewing-machine/

The web page cited above calls the sewing machine grease "tri-flow grease." Tri-flow grease is also known as ". . . synthetic grease with PTFE (teflon) . . ." Source of information:

The sewing machine is attached to the cabinate with special hinge that are mounted to the cabinate which in turn are clamped into the machine thru 2 holes on the base in back. The clamping bolts are either standard bolt threads or metric bolts that clamp onto the pin part of the hinge. You should be able to get them at a local sewing machine repair shop. If you don't have one localy I can provide them for you.

Where do I add grease (not oil) to an older Necchi sewing machine?

When I repair a machine I use triflow oil on any metal to metal rotating part ie back and forth. On metal gears I put the tri flow grease. You can use it on plastic gears although sparingly. the nylon gears were design for quietness and were not recommended for grease. You want to get the old grease off as best you can. If it goes up and down or side to side then oil. If it continuously rotates then grease. Exception those bearings that have an oil hole vs a grease cap.

Kenmore sewing machine keeps squeaking how to stop it?

Hello Shirlene, If your Kenmore machine has two drive belts, a belt from the motor to an idler pulley and a belt from the idler pulley to the main shaft. I have found that the idler pulley needs some Teflon grease on the idler pulley shaft. On my machine, the squeak would go away for a while if I oiled this idler pulley shaft. But it was short lived. Only grease on the idler pulley shaft would silence the squeak.

HOW TO TAKE APART 385.19233 SEWING MACHINE

Unplug sewing machine.
Tip machine gently back onto a towel and use a screw driver to remove screws on bottom plate.
If you wish to oil your machine, only oil moving parts with good quality sewing machine oil - no more then one drop. The gears can be greased with Singer lubricant. Of course, never use cooking oil or body oil to oil or grease machine as this can coagulate in the machine and damage it.I hope this helps.

Kenmore model # 11607090 older model, been setting up for several years, but has never been used-cannot unlock the hand wheel. we were able to wind bobbin, but wheel will not turn.

as for the hand wheel not not being able to turn, it's possible that something could be loose or broken

you said it's been sitting for several years,, I would suggest that the machine needs to be serviced
by a sewing machine repair shop, where they can check the handwheel & find out why it won't unlock, & that the gears & inside the machine can be checked & grease & oiled & the timing check also

My Sears Kenmore 1751 siz-zag sewing maching will only sew in reverse. A few minute ago it was sewing fine in both directions. The button I push to make it sew in reverse doesn't feel like it is...

these older cam machines have grease in then that can jam up the cams if you can get the covers off soak the machine with wd-40 and play with the reverse and stitch length if it breaks free try and soak up as much of the wd-40 as you can and then put sewing machine oil in the machine
