I just purchased a bucilla cross stitch baby blanket. Directions indicate to wash dark threads prior to stitching? I have NEVER had to wash the cross stitch thread! Is this really necessary?

It is "On the farm" crib cover kit

Some threads bleed. Usually reds, but other dark colors can also bleed slightly. You can cut a snippet of them and put them in luke warm water bowls and see if they change water color overnight. If you find that you have a bleeder, you should wash the threads first. If it is for a baby blanket that will likely be used and washed, you definitely want to make sure that the color won't bleed onto your final project later. If you plan to never wash it and just throw it in a frame, you may not need to pre-wash the fabrics.

Thanks so much, yes better safe than sorry. I just think it’s kind of ridiculous, since I’ve made 2 other similar blankets and never had been instructed to do so. An added step just to make it a little more complicated! Thanks for your help!

Take a look at the chart on needle and thread I posted as a tip, but generally, you'll need to use a larger needle, something like a 14 or maybe even a 16, but you shouldn't need heavy-duty thread.

Need instructions for baby quilt #63485

Hello, Lisa -

Is your baby quilt one that has embroidery or cross stitch? Could it be a Bucilla product with the design name "Mother Goose"?

If so, I have not yet found instructions for the quilt online.

Therefore, I suggest you contact the Bucilla Company directly and ask about the baby quilt pattern, in hopes the company Archives holds a set of instructions and you can purchase a copy. Be sure to ask about instructions which may be in the company Archives.

This is the link to the Bucilla Contact Us page:

Best wishes.

I bought a Bucilla cross stitch table cloth on ebay and it has wrong stitching chart. how can I get the correct one? I can't find the website for Bucilla.

Your recourse is to go back to the individual who sold it on eBay. Most likely it is a discontinued item and the possibility of find what you need is probably not good. You could try search for the Bucilla pattern on the internet and perhaps find it that way.

I have no manual for my Elna 1010 sewing machine. My question is how do I thread it and is there a blanket stitch on this machine. Thank you. Joan

There are several websites where manuals can be found:

http://www.tias.com/stores/relics/ has authorised reproductions of many Elna manuals for sale but not yours.

www.diplodocs.com is a free souce but no 1010 there.

www.sewingpartsonline.com is a great site too, and they have yours for sale $US15
link is
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-elna-1010.aspx

I don't know this model real well, but I'm guessing it is a front loading bobbin and bobbin case design maybe?? If so, you may well find that just looking at the instructions for any front loading bobbin machine will get you started,
try this link
http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diagrams/Threading_Pages/Elna_Sewing_machine_threading/Elna_225_threading_diagram.htm
These Elnitas 225, 244, 245 were front loading bobbin style but "made under licence" and sold by Elna. I think the 1010 may well be a similar design so see if these diagrams help get you under way.

Its always helpful to source the genuine manual if possible though so worth spending the money; manuals contain maintenance info as well as threading up, and different techniques and accessories usually.

Lastly, Blanket stitch. I presume you mean the big chunky stitch where you turn an edge over and it looks like a straight line with a diagonal stitch going to the folded edge at regular intervals like this.
tally_girl_77.jpg Some sewing machines do a similar "overcasting" stitch but it won't be big like you might want on polar fleece or a blanket edge. The commercial blanket stitch you see on blankets will be done by a special purpose industrial machine and it applies a single thread just as you would when doing a blanket stitch by hand. So look at the stitch selection dial on your machine and see if there is something resembling a blanket stitch but it usually would only be 4mm wide, the maximum your machine probably can stitch.

So if you want a genuine blanket stitch, its a needle and heavy thread hand job, there are instructions on how to do at www.sewing.about.com, link is http://sewing.about.com/od/beginner1/ss/blanketstitch.htm

Baby Lock Imagine

Here are rhe directions from the manual of "Image" model BLE1AT: 3 Thread Rollled Edge
With the stitch selector set on "D", a narrow edge can become a rolled edge. Remove the left needle and the corresponding thread. Clear the stitch fingers. Turn the stitch length adjusting dial clockwise into the rolled hem range and set the dail at 1.5 Set the stitch width to 3.5

Hope this will be of some help. Good luck and have a great day! Lisa
