Beater bar Belt Removal from Upright Electrolux...
Posted by wrenn on Jul 14, 2008
I am trying to change the belt on an Electrolux Model 1717 Upright Vacuum and I am having difficulty disassembling the vacuum to remove the beater bar and belt.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. . Normally there are screws, clips or levers that would remove the bottom plate or if that does not work then the top cover will come off and that will expose the belt. Once that is off and the belt is exposed then cut off the old belt and then lift up the brushroll on the pulley end and install the new belt around the pulley end and re-install the brushroll. Then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bent right or left end to stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line and reverse you steps in the reinstall of the top cover or bottom plate. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered

I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.

OLD IS IN NEW IS JUNK!

Happy New Year!

SOURCE: free instruction manual for bissell 4104

I've found step by step video demonstrations for cleaning, belt replacement, basically maintenance of different appliances on "YOUTUBE" you might want to check it out. Just type in Bissell 4104 beater bar replacement. Hopefully there will be a video showing you exactly how to replace it properly.

Caught fridge of a blanket in vaccum. Turned off and remove object. Now beater bar does turn. How to fix?

Sounds like the belt either just slipped off, or is broken.
It's normal when the beater gets jammed.

Can you spin the beater easily?

The drum is not turning when I the vacuum is on. I have good suction. What should I do?

by drum I take it you mean the beater bar on the bottom? I would check the belt and probably replace it. remove the screws holding the very bottom of the vacuum on and remove the access plate / cover. you should see the belt or whats left of it.

My roller do not spin

There is also a circuit protector which trips if something gets caught in the roller, so that might be the problem. There is a very small red button on the right side at the bottom of the vacuum (IT'S VERY TINY), and you just push that in and it will reset the circuit.

The beater won't turn

Un-plug the vacuum.

Turn the vacuum cleaner over and pop off or unscrew the bottom plate. The most common things are broken belt, clogged beater bar (usually hair), bad beater bar bearings, or the beater bar and belt is just plain worn out and needs replacing. If the brush nubs are very worn, replacing the belt alone won't help much.

Clean as much debris, hair etc as possible out of the unit. If you have a can of air like the type used to clean computer key boards, blow out the area and the motor if possible. Do this in a ventilated area or somewhere where it will not mess up your house.
