A lot of times there is a hidden screw behind the back of the stock where your shoulder rests.. Be sure you don't have what they call a floating barrel. This style can not be tightened per say if what your calling a loose barrel is the rest under that style of barrel.

SOURCE: How to determine the model and serial number of a marlin 22 rifle?

this is copied from a site, the web address is pasted below.

The serial number depending on the model of rifle, will be located either on the upper or lower stock tang, or side of the receiver.
http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/marlin-serial-numbers-dates-of-manufacture-1664.html

also if you find serial # you may find more info here.
http://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php

From 1962 thru 1968 Marlins rimfire rifles (other than the 39 series lever actions) used a two letter date code that was stamped on the barrel. This date code is different than the one already listed, as Marlin rimfire rifles (other than the model 39 series) did not have a serial numbers until required to by Law after 1968. The first letter of the date code represented the month of manufacture while the second letter indicated the year. This date code was usually stamped on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver.

SOURCE: What year is my marlin model 60 22 rifle serial number 72205505

That is most likely a 1972, I bought mine in 1974 brand new. I still have the box, but I can't read it. The corrupt cops of PA took all my guns and now you have to defend this country without me. I was good enough to go to Vietnam, but not allowed to protect myself when 2 people try to run me down with ATVs, on my own property.

When was a Marlin Model 60 22 caliber LR Rifle made with serial number 20380710?

Marlin made millions of these rifles and unless it is a special edition it has no real collector value. To age a firearm you need to write to the manufacturer with the serial and model information. They are required by BATFE to keep these records. Whether they will share that information with you or not is another story. The good news is that most mfr's customer service departments will look it up and provide you a document with the information they have. They can even get as detailed as what distributor or FFL holder they sold it to after manufacture.

What model is my Marlin 32 w Sn 3242X

Look on the roll mark on the barrel near the chamber end. You will find the model there. I am guessing it is a model 32. If it is an ocatagonal barrel pump action 22 lr caliber rifle it is a model 32 Marlin. If you are looking for the year it was manufactured, that is not the model is, like when talking about cars. Contact Marlin Firearms customer service (now part of Remington Arms) for date of manufacture.

What model is my Marlin with the sn #10655597

You can get that from the roll mark on the barrel near the left side of the receiver. (opposite the ejection port) It would help to know if it is a semi auto or other type rifle. Serial numbers are not any help in determining model designations. I would guess it to be a variation on the Model 60 semiauto .22 rifle.

What years was the marlin model 36 lever action .22 made

The Model 36 was introduced in 1936 by Marlin Firearms as an improved version of the Model 1893. Around the time of the First World War, Marlin dropped the "18" and started calling the Model 1893, the Model 93. But no significant change in the gun's design took place. In the period between the wars, metalurgy was changing, as were manufacturing techniques. So Marlin upgraded the Model 93 and re-designated it the Model 1936. This moniker lasted only one year, and in 1937 it became the Model 36.
Model 36s were made until the Second World War. In 1948, the Model 36 was redesigned and modernized again and was given a round bolt to replace the square . The model number was again changed to Model 336. Lots of versions and lots of small changes have been made since, but variations of the Model 336 are still in production.
