Im trying to update my tomtom start.but i cant get it to dwnld on my laptop.

The usual way to update your TomTom GPS is using the TomTom HOME software that you download and installed on your computer/laptop. Then set up your TomTom account (using the TomTom HOME application) and registered your TomTom device (in that account) on the TomTom webiste
After that, connect your TomTom device to your computer/laptop (using the USB cable). Turn on the TomTom device, and touch the YES icon (on your TomTom screen) if it asks whether you'd like to connect to the computer.
You should be able to see the updates available for your TomTom device (on the TomTom HOME application). Select the updates you want and (download and) install them.
Recently TomTom has stopped providing software/map updates and/or support for certain (older) models of their TomTom GPS. If you see such a notice when you register your TomTom device, your option is to get a newer GPS model (you may even get an offer on the TomTom HOME screen), or you can continue to use your device without updating the software and/or maps until it becomes unhelpful, unreliable, etc.

Did you go to the web site and get necessary software? Have the necessary cord to connect unit to computer?

there is some OS installation problem,try reinstalling the OS or fix the BIOS by flashing(updating) it.do the flashing from the providers site only, bcoz if u dwnld it from other source u may b infecting ur BIOS with a virus

check in the tomtom settings which gps device you are using. i cant remember which typ mine used but you can check and try them all, also mine was on com4 but im not sure if this was standard. if you have the right settings, the with xda-developers.com for radio updates and driver updates. also update your quick gps

try uninstalling the home program and then reintalling the home program again....first follow www.tomtom.com/9545 do FULL uninstall
then www.tomtom,.com/5122 to install home program again

Truck routes are not possible....the unit is designed for everyday road to road navigation only...

Used a paper clip end and pressed the reset button for 15-20 seconds. No data was lost, but I was able to connect to my computer and continue with the updates, etc.

1. Restart your computer
2. connect TomTom to computer
3. turn on TomTom
4. When asked to "connect to computer" enter <YES>
5. Start TomTom Home if it does not do so automatically

I had tomtom speedcameras on my map until i subscribed, then it did an update and they all dissaperd? (i cant see them on the map any more) but in the settings they are set to warn me 15 secs before and it just pops up when im near a camera! so it still works it just looks diffrent.
