Question about Staples Office Equipment & Supplies
There is a bin interlock switch that has to be closed for the shredder to shred. If the shredder mechanism is separate, look for a slot on the underside.

I had the same problem. I have a solution but I do not recommend this unless you have technical experience with repairing electrical appliances. I took the back cover of the main shredder unit to expose the wiring (there are 7 screws in total). The bin full sensor has a blue, green, and red connected to it. I clipped the blue wire to defeat the Bin Full error. You can look through the plastic window to check that the bin is full.

if you look at the underside of the shredder, you will likely find a pressure switch that is actuated when it sits on the stock bin, either modify it to touch when on the new bin or secure it so it is depressed all the time. This should allow it to operate on the replacement bin.
Hope this is of some help.

This exact thing has happened to my unit as well. Ive disassembled it to discover that 5-7 teeth on the gear that the motor drives have been stripped off. Unless the gear can be replaced (which is probably not worth the expense), then the unit is toast. Sorry. Good luck.

I owe this to a Steve-EE.
Mine was the LED where the paper feeds. $1.69 for a 2 pack.
