Scanfrost chest freezer has tripped my electricity meter so when I switched it back again the red light came on the chest freezer and stayed on but can't get it of again and fast freeze doesn't work.

It is supposed to do that, and the thermostat is there for that very purpose. The compressor starts up and when it reaches its set temperature, it turns off. If you aren't opening the freezer very often, it may only start up 3 or 4 times a day to maintain the set temperature. Also chest freezers are very efficient because cold air is heavy, so the chest fills with frigid air and stays there.

Can you hear the compressor humming? Did any water get into the electrics while defrosting?

Are you sure it is a standby light? Usually the orange light is showing you it is in fast freeze. Try switching the orange button off and monitor the temperature. The freezer should cycle on and off, not run continuously.

possibly thermal overload located @ compressor wiring... this is normally due lack of refrigerant back to the compressor from low refrigerant or restricted metering device.

defrost cycle is innactive, will ice up shortly and may not turn compressor off, defrost the unit totally(Turn off for 2 days with door open) and remove all water from the unit once done. Restart unit and should work normal for a week or so, ie...defrost cycle...get back to me if this is the case and will sort it from there, [email protected] Russ

try a total defrost,to clear any internal ice(every 12 months)then switch on and if you have a rapid freeze button leave on for 24 hours to get back to normal operating temp.if you have hard ice around the door seals then you have an air leak which you must sort out(try using a hot cloth to warm seals back into shape.....seals should fit all round, all the time.

Remove the panel covering the compressor. Remove the relay plugged on the side of the compressor and shake it. If it rattles or has any burned spots it is shorted out. Try replacing it first. Make sure you replace it with the correct replacement, not a fit-all. If this is not the problem you will need to replace the compressor. If it is less than 5 yrs old the compressor should still be in warranty. If so call Sears, it will be repaired free of charge. If it is out of warranty buy a new freezer.
