Asus P5GD1-FMS 775 Intel 915GExp. need help..

Ok now this was the upgrade for my custom system when my system suddenly died. i added a new psu and a new mobo this was it. now i still have the same problem a small faint "pts" sound when i press power on and the fans switch on for 1/4th of a sec. led is on..now i think it is the cpu is dead it is an intel pentium4 3.0 cpu which doesnt work with all these replacements. i have some questions. 1 what is wrong with my computer is it the CPU right?.2 will the Asus p5gd1-fms 775 support pentium 4 with 65 nm tech? my old cpu is 90 nm:)

btw i am not a newbie in computers so no the computer isnt shorting the psu amps are checked to support all the upgrades.., i checked all the wires tested the psu mobo ram vid card. thing is the fans spin when the 12 v rail isnt connected so i do think its the cpu but want ur opinions before i replace thanks

Are you hearing any beeps when you turn it on? You say the fans switch on, do they stay on? Are you able to try out your hardware in a second PC (that way you can test each one separately before you go forking out any more cash!)

Will an asus p5gd1-fm motherboard support an intel e8400 core 2 duo 3.00ghz cpu?

No, that motherboard is 915P socket, and the E8400 is Socket LGA775, you will need a new motherboard to use that CPU.

Looking for sound drivers for the p5gd1-vm motherboard

The first link is for Asus. I entered your info so all you have to do is click search and enter your operating system. I don't see an app for Win 7 if that's what your looking for. Keep in mind that before you download new software, you have to unistall any prior software.

Is there a graphics card available which is compatible with the old Asus P5GD1-FM motherboard. The Radeon X700 in place has died. The Radeon HD5450 I bought to replace it does not work at all, so back with...

Any old standard PCI graphics card will work with this board as long as you stay within the power levels your PSU can put out. You can not put a PCI-E or PCI-Express card on this board because you lack the necessary slots. Make sure you double check the interface before purchasing another graphics card.

Connecting my PSU to my Motherboard

The bare essentials to start a computer are PSU, Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Video.

Its possible the PSU arrived DOA. Though I've only had 2 DOA PSU's in the 15 years I've been building custom computers.

Hope this helps.
