Sony Handi-Cam TR57. After being stored for a couple of weeks, the tape door, with tape in place has become stuck in the up position, and the tape cannot be either removed or pushed back down. The tape usually would come up when ejected, then shift outward, allowing the tape to be removed. Note: The battery was very good, and was fully charged when this happened, and still had over 650 minutes left of charge. I also used the wall power adaptor when trying to get the tape out. It is stuck halfway through the eject cycle. Anybody know where to tickle this thing to get it to finish ejecting? I have some experience with tape machines, vcrs, etc.,and can dismantle it if necessary with a little advice beforehand. This is and older model, but was enjoyable to use and should have more life ahead of it.

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the cassette compartment will not open or the tape is stuck and will not eject.
IMPORTANT: If your camcorder model has a RESET button, first try pressing this button. If there is no RESET button, or pressing the button does not resolve the issue, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.

  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR , VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.
NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required .

Can not open cassette player door

There are typically cam belts that become lose after some time that allow the deck to get stuck in a mode that locks the door closed such as play mode. Rotating the pulley that is driven by the motor will release the tape but that is just to release the tape- you need a new belt in the unit and some cleaning and lubrication to make it working again.

Left Deck Door Stuck Shut on Cassette Deck

Hi what has happened is when you pressed play the tape head that reads the tape has come up as normal this locks the door as you cant open it when its playing but instead of the tape head releasing and going back down into start possition it has become jammed in the tape itself.
You have two options turn off at mains and give it a gentle bang a couple of times this might free the tape and let the head go back to start possition its upto you how hard you tap it but doing this usually works and will allow you to get the tape out failing this then its going to be a case of stripping it down till you can get access to the tape head and be able to free it from the tape allowing door to open let me know how you get on ok and if you need further assistance

Cassette does not eject

Either the tape is jamed round sound head, or the door is stuck with somthing like a handle of the case on side of camera, but sounds like tape stuck, run film backward a little (not forward) as more tape will get stuck in forward motion.

remove the inner door pannel the screws securing it will be in the handel and hiden clips around the edge prise them away with a flat bladed screwdriver, once removed you will see the window glass that has come off its runners, undo the winding mech from its fixings and reposition the glass in its runners, you can lock the glass in the up position with a piece of thin wood or simillar if you cannot fix why it came off its runners,

The tape carrage wont load the tapes but it will go into the load position without.

I have a sony cam myself. If the cam is empty, you open the outer door(swings out), and the load/unload mechanism rises up and pops open allowing tape insertion. When a cassette is placed into the mechanism, you press where it says "push" and then the drive pulls the tape down and into the unit. Then the outer door is closed and you're ready to tape. IF YOU PUSH DOWN ON THE TAPE WHILE IT'S BEING PULLED INTO THE UNIT IT WILL STRIP GEARS INSIDE. The gears are made of nylon to prevent serious damage to motors and other circuitry. This transport setup cannot be forced at all. If any type of mis-alignment occurs, the mechanism is supposed to stop and back up--allowing the problem to be corrected. If it is damaged, the cam must be repaired. There is critical timing involved in replacing the tape carriage.---Rick
