New Hayward heat pump, pump only runs heat pump 1hp, rated at 80 gpm, had to reduce to 11/2 pvc as that is what comes out of ground and return, cannot get rid of code ps, no filters in line.

Your motor has a thermal protection switch in it the reacts to an overheating condition. Once the motor cools enough it will turn back on. You may be able to have the motor rebuilt for about half the cost of new if it is not damaged to severely. Take it to a local electric motor repair shop for service. Make sure the supply wire is the correct gauge for the current draw. The main reason to run on 240 volts is a smaller gauge wire and breaker than on 110 which draws close to 15 amps. For example a person using an above ground on a small extension will cause it to overheat. Make sure it is getting as much power as possible

If you have a crack in your basket you may have a clogged impeller. With the power off reach back into the pump through the pump pot with a long screwdriver and feel around. If it feels spongey it there you have a clog. Take the serew driver an use an oceleting motion in a counter clockwise direction this should loosen the clog then reach in with a long set of thin pliers and pull the clog out. This should fix your problem and once water is flowing your pump should quiet down.
