SOURCE: where do I get drive belts for a aiwa xr-m10

Try eBay, i've been looking for these on the internet, they sell kits (long and short variety), containing several pairs of different measures (about $7 per kit), and are supposed to fit various brands and models (including aiwa).

...a hint: a belt measure tells you the diameter of the circle formed by that belt

...another hint: old belts are loose, which means they are a bit longer than the new ones, so when you select the new belt from the kit, it should be a bit shorter than the one you removed from the deck (old belt - bigger circle, new belt - smaller circle).

I'm aware that not all aiwa models are the same, the one i was repairing a while ago had a double tape deck, each deck containing two belts, one long and one short, they were a bit tricky to change, but i didn't need to disassemble any of the mechanisms, i just had to remove both decks from the housing for easier access to the belts which required prior removal of the top cover and rear panel. After that it was some 4 to 6 screws and 4 connectors (just about half less in your case, i believe).
I can't tell what your unit looks like on the inside, but in my opinion aiwas are relatively easy to take apart, but then again, i could be wrong...

Hope this helps you get closer to a solution.

regards

Aiwa AD F660 cassette deck. Having changed the drive belts, the eject button does not now work. Hook holding the cassette door shut does not drop enough to release. How can I fix this? Thanks, Brian

Have you trapped wire or something near the hook mechanism stopping it from getting full travel when the button's pressed?

The nice people at HiFiengine have a service manual for the deck, free you just need to join.

AIWA AD-F800 Replaced belts, old ones totally degraded. If I insert a cassette it will play but only play for 2 seconds (good audio out) but then it stops?

It is important to thoroughly degrease the pulleys before fitting the new belts and it also helps to remove some of the polished drive surfaces with some fine Scotchbrite.
It can also be the perfect time to apply a little light machine oil here and there with a precision oiler.

Finding new belts can be a problem. Most people left to their own initiative will select a belt that fits, often using the old belt as a pattern or by measuring. Unfortunately it is rare the correct size of belt will provide enough friction to drive everything successfully. As a general rule the square or round section belts of the right size must be stretched considerably in order to do the job. Even flat neoprene belts must be stretched by a large amount to fit and drive.

In the absence of knowing the correct size it is well to measure and guesstimate a suitable size smaller and then fit progressively smaller until satisfactory operation is achieved.

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT TWIN CASSETTE DECK AIWA AD-WX727 ON EBAY AND TRYING TO WORK IT. BOTH CASSETTE PLAYERS ARE WORKING O.K BUT WILL NOT RECORD CAN YOU HELP. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE MANUAL BUT NO JOY.

It is often a bad idea to buy dual cassette type decks. They never work very well except for one unit I have seen which was the Sony ES model. It was not cheap at $1200 a unit. You might get it to work but the performance of these is poor even when new. Avoid dual cassette deck at all costs.
