My computer will turn on but not reboot.

Try rebooting. You may have accidentally typed something to change a setting, and rebooting may reset it.

You likely have number lock on.On most laptops, there is a fn key near the lower left corner of the keyboard. Pressing the fn key and some other certain key at the same time will turn on and off number lock. If you can find a key with num lock printed somewhere on it or near it, or if you can find the symbol that looks like a padlock with a 9 on it, that stands for number lock, that is the key that (in conjunction with the fn key) will turn on and off the number lock feature.

Hi those are your keyboard and status lights

Looking at your laptop from the front the first light on your Right hand side is your scroll lock light and is only on when you press the scroll lock button (the symbol shows a lock with a little down arrow)

The light to the left hand side of that light is your caps lock light and again only turns on when you press the caps lock key (The symbol shows a lock with a A in it)

The light to the left hand side of that is your numeric keypad light (Symbol has a lock with a 9 in it), this comes on when you press the num lock key on your keybaord

Finally the last key is your hard drive light (like a cylinder), this will be flashing most of the time as you use your PC as it is constantly reading and writing data

There are 3 lock symbols on the keyboard:
- the NUM LOCK that has the number 9 in it
- the CAPS LOCK that has the letter A in it
- the SCROLL LOCK that has the arrow down in it

- NUM LOCK is always turned on by default

the "9" inside a lock means that your Num Lock button has been pressed. If all you see is the ">" then maybe you are looking at what's called a DOS prompt, and I have no idea why that would display. Try holding the Power Switch for 10 seconds and restart your computer. Hopefully things will be better, and you know where your Num Lock key is.

they keyboard might have gotten wet and shorted out, if its an expensive keyboard you can look on the manufacturers website for a phone number, and they might have a replacement warranty or policy
if its a cheap one you can always buy another one.

Solution#1: Accidentally pressing Sft+Numlock key combination will activate & inactivates ten key pad. (You'll see light enabled in padlock symbol with a number in it [i.e.beside ALL CAPS symbol on your lap monitor]).

Use: "ShiftKey+NumLock" (NumbLock Key: 2nd panel from Top right on keyboard)

Try removing your battery and then putting it back. If that doesn't work, then either your hard drive is bad or maybe even your motherboard is bad. If you can get into your computer's BIOS, check and see if it will allow you to do a system restore from the BIOS page. As stated above, it is probably that your hard drive is bad.

Everyone has to learn! Don't worry. Your NUM lock is one. You should see a light on the computer that looks like a little lock with a number in it (typically the number 9). If that's on, the number keypad in the center of your keyboard will act like a ten-key keypad that you see on the right side of large keyboards. Just hit the Num Lock button on the top right of your keyboard to turn it off.
