I have an Inland product that I use to transfer data from the hard drive of an old computer to a desktop with windows vista. I don't see any connections that are compatible. Do you have a solution to my problem ?
G7 2270us
it's 2012 pc
one of 3 cables you pulled during the hinge change
killed it. all are fragile and take skills to use.
they have locks and can be broken easy, ask how.
backing up has many paths.
ill list them all are covered online zillions if sites.
1: to the cloud oops PC dead, cant.
2: thumb USB drive, cant. dead.
3: to DVD or CD burner , cant. dead.
4, move HDD to other PC direct.
5: MOVE HDD TO OTHER pc INDIRECT usb.
6: MOVE HDD To a nice, hdd 2.5" external USB chassis.
#4 is the most easy, dead pc. G7
you are attempting to use 5.
and id bet that USB adapter does not support VISTA.
VISTA is dead now, for 1 full year.
VISTA has drivers of old things,
IS your vista online, it must be or it cant get to 99% of the plug and play drivers at MS.com.
ok, is it online? means web connected this VISTA PC.
if you plug in that new USB device, to vista
it needs to get a driver from Microsoft driver servers. and they dont have new drivers there now.
for all new USB things, and that is becuaSE
ms DOES NOT SUPPORT VISTA NOW.
SO WHY NOT USE W7./8/10 MACHINE TO DO THAT
AND BE Web connected
or do method 4 above and only costs $2 for Sata CABLE. DIRECT.?
Testimonial: "The HP Pavvilion G7 is 2270us and the inland product that I refered to is a SATA to USB adapter. The computer won't power up and I am needing to get my Income tax report from the Hard Drive"
answering for a HDD not encrypted /bit locker.
ok, so what is this thing look like
just a plastic chunk with no case, 2 connectors and chip inside for conversion.
i have all types, here, so... know them well.
too well.
Dead LAPTOP with no power,
so did you remove the huge battery first.
run on ONLY that HP 19vdc power pack?
it will , for ever, do that. no battery large needed, but do check the RTC tiny coin cell for 3v.
OMG, IRS income tax, pains. yes, just did mine with turbotax.
UN-HINGED? LOL.
The PC hinge, my guess, you left off the power button panel ribbon connector , or half installed, and now dead,.
the ribbons are very fragile, and the connectors are same and tricky as H3LL
there are 3 kinds, one needs to know that going in, or damage happens, every time.\
TYPES of ribbon connectors 3 total.
push on pull off, mostly not seen on HP.
then 2 types of locking sockets.
one type is this hinged lock,
the 2nd is a wedge lock.
first ask a tech here how to work them.
1st, show a photo of yours, and ask
or it will get damaged guessing.
this causes more dead laptops that i can count.
after the fact backup"
ok SOME vista puter. is the target
never use XP and vista can be impossible too.
for sure now that it's dead for 1 full year !
ask why.?
there are 2 ways,
USB to sata adapter or hdd enclosure
or to 2.5" sata to 3.5" sata adapters.
we do this all the time on SDD drives 2.5
in a desktop, so can you.
the bad deal is VISTA ,VISTA will not find the USB driver, for your adapter.
is the vista pc ONLINE, on the web.?
if yes, does it find the USB driver for it
its 2 levels there, the USB port driver
and the new chip in the adapter,
in device manager, you will see errors there.
and will be hard to cure, even impossible.
1: remove old hdd.
2: take it to your adapter sata/usb
3: then make sure the HDD has power and the data cable is connected on both ends.
4: boot vista pc, does it find the drive
(drive manager not explorer)
no, so you look in DM, and sure as shooting
the drivers are missing for that adaptor
and lacking the chip name , we cant help.
if I knew the chip name i can go to MS.com
and look it up, see if it is there, manually.
end.
way2:
connect the old hdd directly to the old Vista
pc, desktop, using ONLY A CABLE PAIR
in fact just like the C: drive is NOW.see>?
that 2.5" hdd is just standard SATA connectors
one can buy in any store for computers
the data cable. $2
just cables, no usb, no electronics, just wires and connectors.
then it works on any pc, plugged in.
connect the standard desktop sata data cable to old HDD.
then from the PSU cable in the vista puter
connect the power cable (sata ) to the old HDD.
now boot vista
now go to control panel
then admin tools
then click computer managment.
and last disk manager.
now assign the new alien HDD a drive letter
say Z:
bingo all data present. in explorer on Z:
all you need is this.
a data cable desktop standard. for $2
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-SATA-3Gbps-...
PS: (USB pain)
i'd avoid any pc with vista and for sure XP
both are dead, at MS and HP.
for sure new USB devices.
MS does not add new devices now to those to old dead support OS.
if lucky old devices work but MANY dont.
on XP and now vista.
if you used that funny usb device on a w7 to w10 PC
PC, it would have worked, due to the magic
of Plug and Play,.
good luck.
I found the parts for the SATA to USB and I plugged the power to the HDD and heard a pop from the HDD. Did I ruin the HDD I then plugged in the USB to the Vista computer. It didn't recognize the HDD.
Is there a problem since the HDD is Windows 10 and the working computer is a Vista ?
lets start new, my hdd is dead or my newer PC G7 not turn on, after a hinge swap.
a 2012 model PC.
we let the chips fall where the lay....
ok?
you push the power button with the newer G7-2270us dead PC, with the main huge battery removed, and AC line pack only,!
connected.
listen for :
there is no sounds, the fan inside is dead.?
right? the fan must spin or you did not put the PC back together correctly.
if the fan spins, next is put your ear
to the HDD cover on the bottom the HDD will be heard to spin, (it has motor)
750GB 5400RPM hard drive (new it had this)
even take the HDD hatch off and listen
even reseat the HDD, (out then back in)
spins now, heard?
do you get text to the screen?, i bet not.
if yes fan dead.that is damage to the power button panel cable
after all if the fan is dead, then there is no power at all now. caused by service damage.why not fix that first.
get the fan to spin with power button pushed.
Im pretty sure the power panel button cable is dis-connected !!!
Rules:
do not plug the hdd into any live power cable. do not hot swap drives.
Example G7 HDd in hand walk to any desktop
with power on, and running.
and side off and plug in the HDD to the PSU power cable, that is hot swapping and can very easily blow up a good drive.
we do this all the time on $5,000 servers but are hot swap expensive drives, not toy drives like used on laptops. etc.... ok.?
that was direct connection statement.
Do not do that with that unknown USB device ether, the USB can be hotswapped any time.
but do not hot swap the HDD side, OK.
end rule 1.
with only AC power, no main battery
do any LED glow anywhere on the PC.?
Rule2:
Visa, why use vista? for USB?
VISA died last year. why expect a brand new USB device to work on VISTA, Microsoft ended support for vista. and you maker of this USB device also ended it . why expect it to work
did this device (USB/sata)come with a CD?
did said CD have a VISTA driver folder.
I bet not. if new. makers of new devices as a rule do NOT support VISTA, only W7/8/10
ok?
that is why I told you to buy a $2 direct connect, SATA cable, and connect directly to that old Vista computer, that cable is just wires, and needs to usb driver at all , a win win thing there.
you turn off the vista box
side off.
mother board is in plain view. "mobo"
you connect the new usb cable to the hdd.
and other end to USB jack2 on the mobo.
any spare USB jack.
then connect the PSU power cable with SATA end (find it there) and connect it to the old
G8 HDD.
now you have HDD, G8 attached to the Vista box.
now and only now power on the vista box.
it will not try to boot to the G8 HDD.(w10)
it will boot to Vista.now, let it.
Then : go to.
now go to control panel
then admin tools
then click computer management.
and last disk manager.
disk1 is vista disk
disk2 is G8 new disk, see it?
right click, the DISK1 if not drive letter there. as is common, add one, now.
now assign G8 HDD , a new drive letter
say Z: (any letter is fine, not C:)
bingo all data present. in explorer on Z:
insert one USB thumb drive into any USB port.
in explorer. (my computer, this computer ,etc)
see the Z drive (G8)
see the USB thumb drive say F: i guess.
now copy that tax file from Z to F;
done.
if you , are hell bent to make the USB/sata
device work, (not easy with vista, even impossible is common) then tell we where you bought it and ill find the maker and ask them
for the vista driver.
That THING has chip inside, and the maker of that chip must have a vista driver or its useless. totally for vista.
why not use W7 machine? PC> or newer
to get your data.?
VISTA is dead now.
I can find drivers for anything made.
manually. (have vast resources i do)
I sure can, but not if it was never made for vista, nobody mortal can do magic like that.
now my wild guessing,????????????
google found this,http://www.inlandus.com/inlandfaq/docs/i...
is that your THING?
he says comes with w98 driver
but that driver is no good for Vista.
not by a mile compatible
HINGE 101:
here is your free HP online manual.
see that power panel 6
or #4 or 13 are wrong. (ALL 3 KILL IT DEAD)
IF NOT PLUGGED IN RIGHT.
see that ribbon cable
and the end connector, I bet its not installed correctly if the fan is dead/.
most connectors inside have locks
if not unlocked, first then cable inserted
in the correct direction, (polarized they are)
and then locked, LAST, IT WILL FAIL.
SORRY FOR YOUR PROBLEMS . BUT THE pc DEAD
And not getting a direct connection to the HDD.
use direct connect, to any PC mobo.
2 cables
1: sata data able.
2: PSU sata power cable (pig tailed to PSU)
dircect.
in fact connect it just like the TARGET PC connects its HDD. same way but to port2 to 6
on the target MOBO
some cheap pCs have only 2 SATA ports.
(e-mechine junk)
so unplug the CD drive, sata cable and use that.
I found the parts for the SATA to USB and I plugged the power to the HDD and heard a pop from the HDD. Did I ruin the HDD I then plugged in the USB to the Vista computer. It didn't recognize the HDD.
Is there a problem since the HDD is Windows 10 and the working computer is a Vista ?
or find any PC shop, not geek squad.
and ask them to backup your data to USB stick
(hand them the hdd and the stick memory)
if you know where you put that one file?
"eg my documents?"(tax)
tell them,. it's really childs play to any technician.
but as always this assumes the hdd is good.
my guess it is, if not dropped.
and again, please to not hot swap HDD.
(the power cable for SURE do not)
I'm not sure what you meant by pop
if the drive is in your hand
and you turn the power switch on, the drive will try to jerk, (Newtons laws)
"for every action there is an opposite but equal re-action"
you can hear it spin too. ear to it.
and in your hand, the spinning drive
has a Gyro effect, you try to turn the case
and it fights you, just like a flywheel.
all that is normal.
but hot swapping drives is not,
not low end drives.
to make a PC desktop safe to add or remove things (other than USB)
pull the power cable off the back of PSU.
then push the power button, you will hear fans spin down, now (may do,or see fans twitch a bit.)
that is the standby power bus, discharging and going SAFE.
now wait say 5min.
add and remove to hearts content, safely.
the turn on power to test things.
repeat all steps, to do more things.

SOURCE: HARD DRIVE DOESN'T READ ON WINDOWS 98
Windows 98se can not see NTFS directories or files without help from another computer type server.
SOURCE: Toggle Between Laptop and Monitor
Fn + F5 toggles the display output, the trick here to wait each time you hit this combination because it goes through several options. Hit it once and it may want to go to just the external, then both the laptop screen and the external. etc. Now Fn + F6 turns the backlight bulb off on the internal monitor to save energy. Now I am giving up the link to your service manual, it is in PDF format so you can make a copy for yourself and keep on the laptop, print it or save it to a flash so you can reference it later. I believe if you take the keyboard off and disconnect the video lead on the left side where the display plugs into the motherboard, then when you power the laptop back up it will default to the external cord and you can use the laptop without any switching. That is what I am doing with an Aspire 5920 that I am rebuilding. Good luck, ParrotHead PC Repair
Just copy and paste the link below to you internet address bar and hit enter.

Make sure the power supply switch on the back is set to 115v, its normally a red switch but could be black.
Once you do that see if you can turn on the computer and get video.
If not then with the computer turned off, take out the memory sticks and reseat them one at a time in each slot one at a time and try turning on the computer to see if you get video. If you still don't get video then try taking out the CPU and reseating it back into its socket properly. At the same time make sure there is no dust or dirt on the cpu or in the socket.
Try again and see if you get video. If you don't get any video this time then disconnect everything and only have power going to the motherboard. If you do this and you still don't have video then the motheboard is bad and would need to be replaced.
SOURCE: SMART failure predicted on hard disk 0:
There is a big problem with newer conponents and Win XP versions prior to SP2. Especially with newer motherboards.
You have to make a bootable SP2 disk if you don't already have one. To do this use the slipstream proceedure specified on the Ms website. Many other websites describe the process with easier language.
Slipstreaming is a common practice now. Essentially, you copy your original install disk to the c: drive then download SP2 to C: drive then download the slipstream utility from MS. Running the slipstream utility then inserts the proper drivers (ide and HD drivers too) into the licensed copy you have. You then create a bootable disk from the slipstreamed files you have.
This approach is resolving alot of blue STOP errors and SMART errors.
ALSO, you want to make sure you are installing any drivers provided by the MB manufacturer AND Drive maker.
Good Luck
