SOURCE: Globe Meat Slicer Model # 500

Fiber gear on blade hub stripped. deep socket required to remove hub. DON'T CUT YOURSELF!! remove motor, used food safe solvent to clean grease out of housing. Fiber gear held on with snap ring. Replace gear, repack housing, put hub and motor back and start slicing. Routinely check to make sure gear is lubed.

SOURCE: Globe commercial Meat slicer

Hi, I have working on meat slicer my whole life and can help you.

What normally happens is this. The bearings in the knife hub (this is the unit that the knife attaches to and spins) is starting to fail.

The gear on the knife hub is made out of a fiberous material and the worm gear on the motor is made out of metal, so when the bearings start to fail and cause resitance in the hub, the metal motor gear starts to eat the fiber gear on the hub and eventually wears a big chuck out of it. Then the motor spins free and doesn't make contact with the hub gear.

How you can check if this is the problem is this. You need to keep the power switch on machine in the off position and turn the blade a 1/4 of a revolution. Then turn the machine on, what should happen is that the blade will spin some and stop again.

The proper fix for the machine would be to rebuilt the knife bearing unit and replace the hub gear, motor gear and hardware.

In regards to the Chefmate. This is a design flaw of Globe and I told them about this when the machine first came out! The know is on a steel shaft that goes thru the aluminum body. The steel shaft starts to corode and also rust, then it freeze in the frame. What has to be done is this. This assembly needs to taken about sanded, lubed and put back together. The best way to permently fix this is have a machine shop machine the frame out and install a Oilite Bushing, these are impregnated with oil and it will never lock up again.

Where are you located? Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

If you have any other questions, you can call me on my cell 201-274-6274 or e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you

Best regards,

Scott

SOURCE: Stripped gear on our Waring Pro FS150 Food Slicer

SmallAppliance.com has the part you need. Waring is no help at all. They only sell the replacement blade! Go to this web site: http://www.smallappliance.com/product.asp?pid=5147&cur=USD&cam=waring_parts&sid=18956&mid=34&gid=18971&prdCls=P&PartsPaNu=1&shopBy=Brand
and get the part. Thankfully they carry the motor gear you need. I had nothing but frustration dealing with Waring trying to get this part. Finally a nice Waring tech told me about smallappliance.com. Good Luck!

SOURCE: Motor runs but blade does not move. sounds like

It sounds like the spocket gear is stripped, the smaller gear drive may be stripped also. You will need to replace these parts. You can order them online at www.masterparts.net. The part should be listed in your owner's manual. If you do not have an owner's manual you can give your model number and I can try to find a copy for you. They also may have a parts break down Master Parts website. I hope this helps you!

My Husband bought me a used Waring Pro Food Slicer model FS150. I used it once, then it started making noises and the blade doesn't move. What's wrong with it and is it an easy fix.

I was hoping it would be belt drive and the belt had snapped, but it is gear driven. The problem is that the main motor gear wheel is discontinued. The only way to check what is wrong is to open it up. There are companies that sell nylon gear cogs. It is a good machine and well worth fixing. Amazon do sell the part though.

How to remove pinion gear on a 609 chefs choice

To remove the pinion gear on a Chef'sChoice 609 electric food slicer, follow these steps:
  1. Unplug the slicer and make sure the blade is fully retracted and locked in place.
  2. Remove the food carriage and the blade cover.
  3. Locate the pinion gear, which is the small gear that meshes with the larger gear on the blade. It is attached to the motor shaft.
  4. Use a small wrench or pliers to remove the retaining clip or screw that holds the pinion gear in place.
  5. Gently pull the pinion gear off the motor shaft. It may be tight, so you may need to wiggle it back and forth or use a gear puller to remove it.
  6. Once the pinion gear is removed, you can clean it and inspect it for damage. If it is worn or damaged, you may need to replace it.
  7. To reinstall the pinion gear, simply slide it back onto the motor shaft and secure it with the retaining clip or screw.
  8. Reassemble the slicer and test it to make sure it is working properly.
It is important to note that removing or replacing parts on an electric food slicer can be dangerous and should only be attempted by someone with experience and the proper tools. If you are not comfortable performing these steps, it is recommended that you take your slicer to a certified repair center for service.

Where can I get gears for Gourmet Living Shopko meat slicer?

Unfortunately meat slicers in this price range are throw away items if they break. Neither Gourmet Living or Shopko actually make this slicer so it is nearly impossible to find parts for. It is probably made in China.
I would suggest you spend a little more money (90.00) and get something like Nesco FS-140r. It has a one year warranty and you can buy parts for it thru Nesco.
