how old is the player, it sounds like the lazer has gone down if it reads cds and not dvds
SOURCE: wont play dvd discs
Hi all.
I have 'a' solution. It is a pain in the neck but what I do is just keep closing the drawer after the message "this disk can neither be played or recorded, please check disk" comes on screen until it does what it is meant to do.
I am only doing this to clear off the hard drive then I am going to buy another machine.

asptroy,
hi mate, just want to know first if what region indicate at the back of your DVD player? the reason why i ask you, is because most of branded DVD have their own region for ex. for asian countries they are tagged as region 3 and Australia region 4 ...... most probably your player is not configured to play multi region disc if it can't play any disc. The only way to check if your player have a problem is to check the region of your player and if you can barrow or buy a dvd disc having the same region. or simply check for DVD disc which indicates that it is a all region compatible. Actually this is only info that i can share, but if your only near in my place i can help you change your dvd player to become a multi disc reader simply by clicking some activation keys using the special remote control specially design to configure and modify region setting of panasonic players.
cheers,
