The fan seem to have quit working and the unit got loud. i oiled the fan but it doenst turn on but the compressor comes on but overheats quickly.

Wild guess, the fan is not working as it should. Too slow or perhaps bad instruction from the "brain". I would guess after some time of "cool down" It will turn on again and do the same thing? Not likely, but the filter needs to be changed, or the coil is
very dirty and cannot "dispose" of the heat fast enough so the compressor works harder, gets too hot and It's overheat switch stops the compressor.

Many of these consumer units use low grade copper for their refrigeration connections. The oil is a sure fire indicator of your seemingly correct diagnosis. Unless you have the proper refrigeration tools to repair and recharge the unit it may not be cost effective to try for a repair, as if this is the issue another leak is likely to occur. Many of these units come with 5 year compressor warranties though, so a quick check to make sure the leak is in the refrigerant piping and not on the compressor itself may be worthwhile. If your warranty has not run out it could be beneficial to find the exact source of the leak.

Are you sure it's oil and not just some gunk that was left in the drain tubing? If would be kinda hard for oil to get in the drain tubing. For now, just keep an eye on it.

Sounds like bad relay on compressor or bad compressor. There is only so far you can go yourself without knowledge in electrical and AC units. Suggest you call a service tech or if you can take it to service cemter near you. Russ

the compressor runs in oil. suspect you have a quite bad leak and loss all the gas - hence no water collection and the compressor oil is being pumped out thro the leak

not sure which dehum yo have,but here I go! most fans are not part of the cooling system. first remove the housing where the fan is. turn the unit on and check to see if the fan is turning. if not then just wait till you hear the compressor kick in. if the compressor goes on then you do have a problem w/the fan motor and it will have to be replaced. worst comes to worst just bring it into Sears. they have techs which will let you know what the exact problem is and you can take it from there. make sure you give them the model # first,just to check if the have parts for your dehum.

Most likely the fan motor has broken. Without the fan, the compressor will overheat. There is a safety device inside that automatically shuts off the compressor to keep the overheating from destroying it. Check to see if you can feel air movement in the front or back of the unit while it is running. If not, then the fan motor has definitely broke. I had this exact problem on mine.

If you take the unit apart, you will find a parts list inside the unit. It will be inside a small plastic pouch. You can order a new fan motor from Sears. The cost is $30 plus shipping.

You will have to move the condensing coil in the front out a bit in order to exchange the motors. Just be careful not to break any of the copper lines. They are copper so they will flex quite a bit without breaking. Still, use caution. If you break the lines, all the refrigerant will leak out and your unit will be useless.
