Power on but picture and sound go off then come back on sometimes minutes in duration sometimes hours

Appears to be a power supply issue.

sounds like you have a video board problem or a back light problem.

At 8 years age components are wearing out. It sounds like a power supply issue. It is not cost effective to repair.

an UPS is only designed to prevent data loss while transitioning from grid to generator power.

They run on battery. Some work for as few as 10 minutes. Others as long as an hour.

Like all batteries, if overused, the 'last' time can become less and less.

I have a Samsung 55 inch plasma that has experienced intermitent garbled audio, sometimes very frequent (a couple of minutes between episodes) and long in duration (several minutes). Switching to another channel and back would correct the audio.

I ran the auto program channel function a couple of times and it eliminated the gabled audio problem, except for infrequent (once every hour or two) and very short (a second or two in duration) episodes of gabled audio.

I found a thread on a CNET forum on this subject and it seems that the garbled audio problem affects a number of Samsung flat panel models.

It sounds lamp is weak in TV and requires replacement.
I would be in better position to help you out if you post model and brand of your TV.

it may be a bad DMD board. This is usually the problem when you get the three lights of death.

you may want to check all of your coax conections and stray ground shield piece littl tiny silver mtal wire will cause that reaction or you may have a ad reciever if so if ou have the directv inurance they will replace it for no cost to you at all.
