Sound like the fuel pump is not keeping up with the engine's demand. Check it out. Good luck. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: impeller replacing on 1999 merc. 25hp 2 stroke

Should not be that hard. Tape up the ends so you can hold it with out getting cut, (if its ragged or sharp from damage). should be one nut holding the impeller on. If its to tight to hold try air or electric Impact wrench. If its bad you can tap with a hammer to help in removing the old one. If it turned on the shaft you will need to rent a puller. Repost if you need more help.

Did you change your fuel? If you are trying to use the same fuel from last year without being stabilized then that would cause your problem. I know that you already had your carbs cleaned but it sounds like something els got plugged up in them. If you have fresh fuel then I would take the carbs back apart and check your jets in the carb to ensure that there is nothing obstructing any of the orifaces in the jets. I am a boat mechanic and I have had to take carbs apart 2-3 times sometimes if they were varnished really bad to make sure I got all of the gunk out.

yam water pumps are clever the offste centre causes the pump vanes to flex during rotation and at low RPM you have a displacement type pump, at high RPM water pressure forces the vanes to flex inwards and the pump becomes centrifugal, you can fit the impellar either way up so you cant fit it wrongly make sure your gaskets are ok and that the delivery pipe to the power haed is not leaking (try a hose on it) also make sure the little woodruff key or on some models the pin through the drive shaft which turns the pump is fitted ok, not much else that can be wrong!

400>? SAYS USED EXTENSIVELY ON TRUCK THEN,.

Early models produced 265 hp (198 kW) with a two-barrel carburetor. All 400s came with a two-barrel carburetor until 1973. A four-barrel carburetor option became available in 1974.

The 400 was never intended as a high-performance engine and never saw large factory horsepower numbers; nevertheless, it developed a reputation for creating tremendous torque (up to 400 lb?ft (542 N?m) in 1970)

OLD CARS OR TRUCKS MAY HAVE HAVE MODS

What type of petrol is needed for a yamaha outboard motor horsepower 8?

reg unleaded gas.

You haven't specified as to its year of manufacture, so if its older, as in a 2 stroke, it'll be a mix of gas and outboard oil.

If its a newer model, a 4 stroke, it'll be injected(Gas and oil seperate)

If you are totally unsure, Consult your owners manual and if you have none, then any Yamaha dealer can use the serial # off the motor to establish any specs on it for you.

Happy boating.

I bought dirt bike for husband! is 2005 yamaha yz250 a 2-stroke or 4-stroke? i'm not sure if it's yz250 or yz250f now that i'm to get posted i'm not sure of year. sleeve around cable say nov 2005

Congrats on the purchase! easy way to tell look at the exhaust pipe. if it is just a thin tube that is tight to the engine and goes right to the muffler it is a 4 stroke (250f). the four strokes have a square-ish head. Deep/bass-y engine sound. If you have a large (probably black) exhaust pipe with a large bulge in it (5-6" diameter) that wraps around the front of the frame, its a 2-stroke. They have a more round cylinder head. Beautiful pingy sound and a little smokey at start up. DON'T FORGET TO MIX YOUR GAS!!! there should be a serial number sticker at the very front of the frame (behind the number plate where your triple clamp/handlebars connect) Probably on the left side. Hope it helps! rate please :)
