I'll be honest with you Michelle, the radio is ancient.
I saw a used one for sale here:
https://edsgoodstuff.com/edscart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=5942

and it went for $25.

I don't think it's worth putting much into it.
Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news.

The radio has no sound our of the speaker. What is a phone # that I could speak with a repair person?

1-800-554-3988 or check local for a marine/radio (ask the local PD or Fire who repairs their radios) repair shop. The ACC cable from the back has wire colors orange(+) and black(-) for external speaker wire connections. Connect a 8 ohm speaker to eliminate the internal speaker gone bad. Have a nice day.

Why my uniden has no squech or sound but transmits

Hi

Although this question is an old one, I\'ll do my best to answer it in case someone else has the same issue. This is condition is nearly always caused by a cabling problem usually where the antenna connects to the radio. Carefully inspect the connector for obvious damage, clean the connection with silicone spray (safe for plastics) and reconnect the antenna several times. While you\'re at it, check and clean the power connections as well, both at the radio and the battery/power panel connections as the problem could be as simple as a poor ground.

This problem could also be the fault of a broken wire/poor solder joint in the PL-259 plug itself. If you\'re handy with a soldering iron, take the connector apart and make sure the centre pin connection is securely soldered as well as the ground braid soldered securely to the case of the PL-259. I\'ve included the link to Uniden\'s marine electronics owner\'s manuals and the support page. I\'ve had pretty good luck in the past when I\'ve had to contact Uniden.

Hope this helps.

HOW TO ADD EXTERNAL SPEAKER ON A UNIDEN 525?

Hi!
From your owner's manual (page 12) use the blue(-) and the brown (+) wires from your GPS/External speaker connector cable to your external speaker. I've included the owners manual link to your radio.

if you are in new zealand you will probably want the intl. setting. this usually determines a difference in available frequecies. some would be useless in certain areas. the link has the proper frequencies for what you're looking for.

Plug portable whip antenna into radio, power on with car lighter, no reception...how do I tell if radio itself is not working properly

To check your radio you will need a ANTENNA RADIO TESTER Shakespeare make a cheap tester STYLE: ART-3 works good. Good luck.

How do you replace the mic in my radio cant get the old one out

If you got a new mic open the radio from the back, there are 4 phillip screws on the back cover, remove the screws, then pull the back off, there is a rubber seal between the face and the cover, the seal is reusable, turn the radio face down, look at where the mic wire enters the face and there is a safety clip and a plillip screw that holds it in place, remove the screw, pull the clip and the mic wire is connected with a small 3 conductor quick-connect inside the radio. Then just replace the new mic wire and place the safety clip and screw back in place and re-connect the 3 conductor quick-connect, replace the cover and you're ready to use the radio. Good luck.

I can receive only the strongest signals eg from USCG or very local transmissions. Antenna cable connections checked out. Nobody can receive my test transmissions. Do I need a bench test of my set?

Try a new antenna first. If you have the same results and the PL259 connector is the solder type and it is soldered properly then I would take the radio to a test shop for them to test.

Power cord ?

What kind of radio is it? Looks like a Marine Band radio. Do you still have the owner's manual, as it will show the purpose for each wire. If you don't, write or email the manufacturer to get one. Most Amateur and Commercial gear simply has a red and black wire to get DC power to the radio. Sorry I couldn't answer your question better, but I've never come in contact with a four wire radio.
Longshorts.
