More than likely, it is a power related issue. I would be sure your power supply charging the battery is plugged in and has voltage to it. Most of them have a light and you can see if it is working. Also there are lights on the computer, do they all come on? If not then it is definately a power problem. Most batteries need a 12 hour charge if they are run down. Try plugging it in and leaving it charging overnight and try again in the morning. If the lights come on then you have a totally different issue, possibly a internal motherboard problem. The internal battery can also go bad. If the lights come on then it may have just lost the setup and configuration, so it can be fixed. If the lights come on try hitting the f1 or f2 key when it is starting up. If it is a config. issue, it will open up to the BIOS setup. If the lights come on you may be able to boot off of a backup cd, if you have the origional disk. At this point it is best to see what results you get with this.

1st thing you need to do is to make sure the adapter is working.
check to see if any LED indicator lights up when you connect the charger.
if none of the indicators light up with the charger plugged in, you may need to consider replacing your charger/adapter.
however if the indicator come on, then it is most probably a problem with your power/on switch (at the least) or a problem with your motherboard (at the most)
There could e a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power
adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop,
remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop &
see if it works. If the laptop works directly from the power adapter
with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case
we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
Try also to reseat the main components of the notebook: the battery, the AC adapter, the memory modules, & the hard drive. After that try switching it on & see if the problem was fixed.
Very possible that something has short circuited on the motherboard. I would also try re-seating the memory located on the bottom of the laptop(which could be loose explaining the intermittent nature of the issue). On an IBM I once fixed that had the same issue I took out the CMOS battery and battery for one week and then re-installed and that fixed the issue. But good luck to you!
make sure the battery is unplugged from the laptop and only hook up the ac adapter. If you can't get it to turn on then try anotherr knowng good working adapter and if it still can't turn on then the motherboard is bad and will need to be replaced.
Try taking the battery out and just use the AC adaptor. Does the PC "come on" when you press the power button? Does it show the animation bar at the bottom of the screen when XP first starts?
