You do have a problem as the system is controlled by the right-hand speaker. I would suggest you somehow buy an ADA885 system where the main amp/subwoofer has blown, then you will have a complete system.

SOURCE: Altec Lansing speaker - model ada 745

I am guessing you mean the cord that goes into the PC, I don't know how "Broke"it is, but you should be able to cut the old end off and replace it, if you buy an inexpensive speaker extension cable, you can use that for the new end, or try radioshack, they may have replacements that just need to be wired, usually a black and red wire is all, just tape it up good to avoid shorts

SOURCE: I have Altec Lansing AVS 300 multimedia speakers with no power

Unfortunately the subwoofer supplies the power to the amp on the speakers, Once again I have the solution,
These speakers are factory molded so that the only way to open them is to break the factory seal
this can be done by sharply rapping the seam at the bottom of the speaker with a heavy screwdriver handle or something similar.
Now you need to supply power to the amp...If you do not have the subwoofer you will need a 4.5volt power supply, after removing the board from the casing find the red white and black wires connecting
the orange plug wire to it, Personally I removed the entire cord from the unit, shough you can splice in at this point if you desire.
Connect the white lead to your posative on your power supply by either splicing or soldering, connect the ground to the heat sink using the screw that is already there holding the chip to the sink. reassemble the speaker.....super glue... and you are now in business.

No sound out of my Altec Lansing ADA 745. Computer Sound card is fine.

If other speakers are working, then 745 is defective or the volume switch is set to mute. Please check that, repair it if required.

Altec Lansing ADA 885 connects with an SPDIF cable. Something like this should do the trick for you:

Short in subwoofer wire - Altec Lansing computer speakers & sub

yes, you can splice the cables and put on a new connector, goto radio shack with the old connector and im sure they will have one you can splice right onto it. ive done this many times with varios equipment "headphones speakers etc" it may take a couple of tries to get the wiring right but if its just one speaker there will most likely be just 2 wires, if you wire it up and it doesnt quite sound right, wire it the other way. speakers will work wired backwards but wont sound quit right so if it doesnt, rewire it and it should. good luck and i hope this helps!

Lights on Altec Lansing display flashing after power outage and have no sound, check drivers and they are active and okay, but unistalled and reinstalled just the same,no results;also replaced fuse on...

I had the same problem. It ended up being a short in one of the wires in the control board. It was actually pretty easy to fix once I located all the screws to take apart the speaker where the board is housed...

Altec Lansing ADA 885

Hi,

Thanks for posting direct. As you posted, the Sony XBR has only left & right (white/red) outputs whereas your Altec ADA has multiple INputs. This leaves us with no other option but to used just the green INput of the Altec as the black and the S/PDIF has nowhere to be connected to in the Sony.

You would need to use a phone stereo to RCA cable/connector as shown below. Additionally, you would have to set up your speakers as suggested here.

Altec Lansing ada885

Same issue showed up for me today very randomly...

HD comes on and off for no reason and sound cuts in and out. This fix worked for me:

1.Disconnect the left speaker from the sub woofer.
2.Take the 4 screws out on the bottom of the left speaker. (They are under the rubber matting you can just poke holes through it)
3. Remove the bottom plastic assembly from the speaker
4. Cut the 4 wires to the headset chip. Careful not to cut any others to the speakers themselves!
5. Unscrew and remove headset plug chip
6. Reassemble and plug left speaker back into sub woofer.

No more HD issues =)

Compatability with TV

Hi,

Yes but you will not enjoy all the features of the Altec ADA 885 speaker system and if the TV's features will allow you.

Most TV's do not have audio out and if ever they do, chances are that it will only be left/right. Your Altec ADA 885 speaker system is capable of getting multiple inputs other than just left & right; main, front, surround & S/PDIF.

Hardware wise, the standard audio connector to the audio outputs of your PC are baby phone plugs, while those in the TV are RCA. If ever you will push through, you would need to get hold of a stereo RCA to baby phone cable. Am not sure if the yellow dongle cable that came with your package is long enough.

Additionally, here is a link to the normal installation instructions for an Altec ADA 885 speaker system should you be interested.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
