I have recently discovered the fan in my oven was not turning/working, but it was still cooking food fine. I have removed the cover and given the fan a clean and sprayed with a bit of WD40 and the fan now spins again, but when cooking today, the fan element is glowing red and a lot of smoke has just come out of the oven? Any ideas what is wrong please?
Hi,
You've almost certainly burned-off the WD40 you sprayed over it.
The most likely reason the fan stopped in the first place was because it is covered in grease from years of use.
If the oven comes with instructions for a 'self-cleaning' program, use it, possibly a couple of times over, to get a really deep clean.
If there isn't a self-cleaning, see if you can take out the motor from the back of the oven & deep clean it with a very good degreasant.
That will be hard work, but might preserve the life of your oven.
Best of luck.
SOURCE: Clean very greasy Belling oven
this happened to me a couple times. Once it has cooled down clean it up with any of the following:
1: Wet Sponge (loose stuff)
2. Steel Wool (stuff that is hard to scrape off)
3. Oven Cleaner Spray (Yes, they actually sell this at the store)
I think i've actually used some Lycosl wipes before... but not too much becuase I didn't want my food tasting like it.
Once you scrape/wipe up all the stuff at the bottom you should be fine.
SOURCE: oven smoking
smoke is caused only by fat getting onto an element and should stop after a while, ie when all the fat is burnt off. this is usually a problem with the grill element.
you can get a finjhe mesh grid which fits over the centre vent in the back plate and this should help

I would not advise you to remove the element unless you feel competent to do so.
Best thing to do is to put the grill full on and let all the fat and grease burn itself off.
you will not hurt anything by doing this.
Make sure you have the griil door open and your house door.
Plz rate my solution.
thanks.
SOURCE: Neff B1432 oven element and fan not working
If the element has failed again in such a short time , then I would suspect that the fan is the culprit.
If the fan is not working, then the element overheats, and burns itself out.
The fact that the fan spins freely, proves nothing, as the fan can be still faulty.
The only way to prove if the fan is faulty, is to remove the oven from the housing, and remove the rear outer panel of oven,.test with a meter set to ac mains and test the fan motor terminals to see if there is power there when oven is set to heat, disconnect the element first. ,if there is ,and the fan is not running then the motor is faulty..
If there is no voltage there, then problem is elsewhere, and you will have to investigate furher.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.
