If the garmin can reach satellites in North America, it will reach satellites anywhere in the world as long as it has a clear line of site to the satellites. Depending where you are, the satellites can be higher or lower in the sky. This means that the garmin in your vehicle may not be able to see the satellites how you have it positioned in your vehicle. Try finding the satellites outside of your vehicle while in Europe. If you can, then the problem is positioning in your vehicle. The satellites are all the same kind no matter where you are.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite

No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.

Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.

I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.

Be sure you update your version to the last one.

SOURCE: won't acquire satellite

Try this and see if it fixes your problem...first disable bluetooth then follow these steps....

1. Power off the unit.

2. HOLD down the power button and you will see "Pre Boot Mode" appear on the lower part of the display. KEEP HOLDING the power button down and the display will flicker, do this until the pre boot mode message disappears. This seems to take a long time (60 seconds at least).

3. Once the pre boot mode message disappears release the power button and your device will perform some activites to recover from the problem.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 360 - Acquiring Satellites

I had a problem with my Nuvi 360 that it couldn't find the satellites. I couldn't solve the problem with resets or updated software, but a new, external antenna that plugs into the side of the folding antenna seems to have solved the problem. Available from Wireless Finest through Amazon.com - like $11.50. Great solution - can't beat the price.

My garmin nuvi 1450 repeatedly says "acquiring satellites". How do I fix this?

Take it into an open area such as a parking lot or field, it will soon acquire the satellites and they will stay acquire unless you go into a parking garage.

I brought my Garmin 1260 that I used to use in LA to Florence Italy. After putting the small card for Europe to the little slot, I have problem. I can find the location no problem but satellite is not...

I'm afraid the 1260 that is made for USA will not work in Europe. The only satnavs that work in both Europe and USA are those that have both maps of Europe and USA pre-installed.

My garmin 205 seems to have lost its fix. Its position is out by about 100m, tracking established roads but to one side or other then loses roads altogether then gets totally lost. Is a map update...

Whenever these devices start acting up, I recommend performing a hard reset of your Gamin Nuvi 205. Also, use Garmin's WebUpdater service to make sure you have the latest software on your device. There have been numerous fixes to the firmware to allow the Garmin 205 or acquire satellite signal faster, and to be more accurate with your location.

I hope that helps.

I want t travel accross europe and do not have full addresses to enter into my garmin nuvi 250 please could you tell me how to do this Lynn

The nuvi 270 is the model that comes with pre-loaded maps of europe. The nuvi 250 only has North America. You can find the right maps on Garmin at: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/buymaps.do

You can purchase all of europe or select areas which are $50 dollars cheaper.

Garmin nuvi

If a GPS gets a factory reset, powered off for months, or powered up again in a different country, it will eventually scan the sky for any satellite it can find, and then download a new almanac and ephemeris - which can take up to 12 minutes after it finds the first satellite. This is best done stationary, to minimize the doppler effect until a fix is acquired.
