There is or was a mechanical system of wheels, pulleys and a dial cord that was moved b turning the knob on the side. . A wheel, pulley, or cord is broken or out of place, broken, stripped, or stretched, I would guess broken because 35 year old plastic is fragile and the dial has to be tight enough to break small plastic holders, Going out and catching that little bird, and replacing it in a coo coo clock would be easer to do than repair it properly. Sorry!
You will probably have better luck finding a 35 year old bird than a 35 year old radio part

SOURCE: Roady XT Transmitter problem

Mine is doing the same as well. Been working for 1 year. Now it starts cutting out while listening. I noticed if it is broadcasting the fm frequency menu is there. The minute it cuts out I press Menu and that menu item is gone. It comes back once the radio starts working again. Mine is 1 year old. I got it Christmas of 2006. I do know that if you have it directly connected then this menu item will not appear and that is by design. I think my xm roady xt has gone bad.

If you use your radio at work it could be exposed to dirt and dust and more! Could just need a good cleaning, drywall dust is terrible on electronics!

SOURCE: tuning lamp on Proton 320 clock radio

The original is an incandescent 14V 30mA bulb. Hard to get. Much easier to substitute a Blue or Green 3V 30mA LED, in series with a 470ohm 1W carbon resistor, to reduce the 14V to 3V. The LED will last almost forever. Don't forget that an LED is polarity-sensitive, and must be connected appropriately Long-leg to RED, and Short-leg to BLACK.

Proton RS-420 clock radio can't get any AM or FM stations but the clock and the alarm work fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Both AM and FM channels needs aerials to work. Usually the AM aerial is built in, and the FM aerial is a wire that need looping up. But if it was okay that last time you turned it on and you don't have a cat that chews wires, the radio section may have just failed. It is 32 years old. The other thing to check is that the volume control hasn't been turned down to zero.

I have just bought a pure radio Elan E3 when I switch on it says no stations found

FM radio settings
Note: You can only see the FM radio settings when you have selected ‘FM’ as the radio source.
FM stereo option
You can choose between stereo or mono reception when listening to FM radio. Mono may improve
clarity where stereo signals are weak.
To change between Stereo or Mono reception:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Turn and press the Select dial to choose ‘Audio Setting’.
3. Select between ‘Stereo Allowed’ or ‘Forced Mono’.
FM scan
You can choose whether your Elan E3 automatically stops at the next available FM station or the next
available FM station with a strong signal when scanning for an FM station. To change the FM scan
setting:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Turn and press the Select dial to choose ‘Scan Setting’.
3. Select between ‘Strong Stations Only’ or ‘All Stations’.

DAB settings
Note: You can only see the DAB settings when you have selected ‘DAB’ as the radio source.
Full scan
You can use the ‘Full Scan’ (autotune) function to automatically scan for new digital radio stations and
remove inactive ones.
To carry out an autotune:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Turn and press the Select dial to choose ‘Full Scan’.The number of stations found will be
displayed during the autotune.
When the autotune has finished, your Elan E3 will tune to the last station that you were listening to. If the
last station you were listening to is no longer available, your Elan E3 will tune into the first station in the
alphabetical list.
Manual tuning
To manually check the signal strength of a known channel:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Turn and press the Select dial to choose ‘Manual tune’.
3. Turn and press the Select dial to choose the channels.

How do i tune Mazda Demio (2004 model) radio to Southern African frequencies?

fm frequencies are just that fm frequencies ( not japanese, chinese ,english or anything else
it is a range of frequencies in the fm band that local stations broadcast on
so all you have to do is to turn the tuner knob until you get 107 fm
so as you turn the knob you will loose 89 and it will go probably 90.5 , 100.20, 102.7 etc and if there is a station broadcasting that your radio will pick up it will come in and then fade out as you keep moving the knob
you may have to change the mode as there are fm 1 ,fm 2,fm 3 bands to get your fm 107 as it will depend on what megahertz 107 is operating on

Tuner knob no longer moves needle to tune in stations on radio

Since most radio's have digital displays these days, to have a pointer move along a dial implies it's either old or a retro model. In any case all that will have happened is that the chord or something in the drive that moves the pointer will have either snapped off or broken. It shouldn't be too hard to repair, though it can be a bit tricky to set it up right.

2013 Santa Fe Sport radio on am 670 cuts out and back in with varied times off. If I toggle to the next station and back it is there right away. The station does not have a problem on my other car. This is...

cuts out ?
well, all FM radios cut out for.:
1: weak station.
2: stereo can not be held in properly( can be bypassed on most RAD , pick mono)
3: AGC drop out, same as #1

on better radios (RTM) you can defeat these default features.
set the FM to mono channel mode, and now you hear all stations.
also kill the AGC mode. this allows you to hear
the station. and static or both. like a Marconi radio of days of old.
modern radios are programmed to blank weak stations.
tis a fact. im a tech and tuned these features, for 50 years.

ok the fix,
1: move closer to station
2: get a better antenna (vast choices)
3: go to station and turn the gain knob up and get arrested by FCC.

Tuner

This sounds major.....

The signal detection used in both radios and TV sets is via special voltage sensitive diodes which alter capacity as the voltage across the diode changes.
You actually change the voltage across the diodes as you move the tuning dial.

In your case the diode only sees one voltage and is locked to a certain station, because you are not altering the capacity to re-tune to another station...

So it appears that you have lost the ability to alter the DC voltage across the diode...

The design of the tuning knob may be where this fault lies, where the physical action of turning the tuning knob does not transfer the mechanical action to the item that changes the DC voltage to the diode....maybe you have systen that uses a long cord would around pulleys that gives you nice control over the tuning maybe its just a broken tuning cord...
Maybe the tuning is done by just a simple variable resistor I'm not familiar with this system but I have given you the bascics to start on...Unplug the cord from the AC wall socket then remove the top of the cabinet and have a look to see what moves when you turn the tuning knob it will soon become apparent if there is nothing moving when you turn the knob and thus lead you on to the problem....
Maybe the knob is just loose on its drive shaft...
