Are you saying it's dead, with no display and no inside light when you open the door? And the fuse is good?

If so, you may have a bad magnetron temperature fuse. This device looks similar to the attached photo and is located near where the magnetron mounts.

You can usually find exploded views entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

SOURCE: Sharp model R-1871 shuts off every 59 seconds

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, either the switch or motor or the damper door may be binding.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample drawing for a typical damper assembly.

We have the applicable service manuals for these models and have uploaded it to our site here and here to help you.

If a switch is all you need, we offer a universal type for only $5 postpaid which you can order here.

Is the sharp above range microwave model r-1871t recirculating?

According to the Sharp product site, http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeAppliances/Microwaves/Models/R1871.aspx , the R-1871 is a convection and microwave oven. The manual describes using the convection oven feature on page 18 (page 20 of the PDF). The direct link to the manual is: http://files.sharpusa.com/Downloads/ForHome/HomeAppliances/MicrowaveOvens/Manuals/mic_man_R1872.pdf . The convection button is on the top left in the middle group of buttons. You use the numeric power level buttons to set the oven temperature. When you program convection cooking, the 1 button will bring the oven to 100 degrees F. The 6 button gets the oven to 350 degrees F.

I hope this helps.

I believe mine blew a fuse as well

Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.
many people have been electrocuted with an unplugged microwave due to the enormous residual charge inside.

you can now get a new microwave at walmart for fifty bucks..........why monkey with a ten year old unit.

Sharp 1850 microwave

The most likely sources of the funny sound would be the high-voltage diode, transformer or the magnetron.

It's possible that the high-voltage capacitor shorted and blew the fuse.

It will take some troubleshooting.

At our site, we have critical safety information, and disassembly information.
