All of the presets I have encountered in the last years were thankfully simple; you manually tuned the station, then simply pressed and held the desired button until the display was stable (not blinking).

Speaker voice coil alignment is critical enough that it requires special skills to replace these and with the price of replacement speakers being pretty minimal, I wouldn't even recommend it.
If the enclosure is not welded shut, I would open it, determine the diameter and take notes on any specs printed on the frame (such as '8 ohms') and buy TWO them from any of thousands of vendors (start with eBay).
There are very high power speakers for stage use that cost hundreds of dollars to replace and these can be repaired by specialists economically.
The unit will attempt an internal reset to start from a known position. If you are hearing mechanical noises, the unit is out of sequence and must be rebuilt. These are not the most straightforward units. If any portion of hte system fails the "startup" sequence, the entire unit will stop. Unfortunately, this may need to see a servicer.
