Hi, try updating your printer drivers:
Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done

Are you looking at the canon error window picture that show up on your monitor: It is the front inner flap you see after you open up the two top "covers". I forgot I opened this one looking for a paper jam. The printer cartridges would not even move to the front with this flap opened. After I closed the inner flap it all works (after opening and closing the top two "covers" many times!

i searched error 1851 and all it said was priter cover open due to
the little clip inside is not touching any more

on the top of the lid or were it closes you will see it go in u should try to see if its connecrting with the other one at all

I had the same issue, turning off didn't solve it.
There's a plastic flap the width of the print tray just inside that I flipped up and it solved this problem. It is directly in front of the ink tanks. I'm assuming we flipped it down and forgot about it. It seems it needs to stay up, although you wouldn't notice it when it flips down when you close the top, as it closes just fine with it down. It's easy to overlook. This took me a few hours to realize.
The top of the flap has a half circle cut out of it in the middle.
Close the inner cover to resolve the error condition.
