Hi there.
There have been hundreds of complaints about this problem. You can download a driver AND a user manual from the first link listed below. The second link will take you to a really great site for your printer.

Hi, try updating your printer drivers:

Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done

I forgot I opened this one looking for a paper jam. The printer cartridges would not even move to the front with this flap opened. SOURCE: I have a Canon MP600

  1. Have you tried turning the printer on/off?
  2. Did you replace the cartridges with the power on or off? Most printers require you to replace them with the power on.
  3. Try replacing the new one with the old ones. Do you get the same display?
  4. On the printer, is there an alignment button?

Good luck!

SOURCE: my mp600 keeps saying close inner cover-which is closed

I had the same issue, turning off didn't solve it.
There's a plastic flap the width of the print tray just inside that I flipped up and it solved this problem. It is directly in front of the ink tanks. I'm assuming we flipped it down and forgot about it. It seems it needs to stay up, although you wouldn't notice it when it flips down when you close the top, as it closes just fine with it down. It's easy to overlook. This took me a few hours to realize.

The top of the flap has a half circle cut out of it in the middle.

The inner cover (flap in front of cartridges) is closed but the following sign keeps reappearing "inner cover is open. Close the inner cover and press ok".

When the message shows means inner cover sensor is faulty so it cannot detect inner cover state correctly. Try to clean the contact sensor with contact cleaner is good idea since it sometimes an oxidation occurs. Many times I success fix the problem like this.

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

The location is not the bottom tray feeder but the disk tray. In settings change your media type to "Printable Disk" the paper scource should automatically change to "Disk Tray" and hopefully every thing will work OK.
