I think I have the same problem. The edges of the picture are cutoff and we have no idea how that happened. Neither the TV's remote nor the cable box remote has a menu option for aspect change. Need a solution

What is the aspect button on a sharp remote?

there should be a button labelled "P.size" and that should show you the aspect ratios but if not go to the menu and access picture and look through the options until you get size and it should allow you to change aspect ratios.

There are black bars on the sides of the picture its like the opposite of wide screen movies

Press the "Format" or "Aspect Ratio" or "Wide" button on the remote or look for these options in the display section of your menu. Note that this will normally change only analog signal aspect ratio.

the aspect is controlled by the on screen menu
if you can press the buttons on the side of the tv to get that screen menu then you can adjust the screen resulation

Occasionaly a wide screen dvd plays only in full screen

The aspect ratio on your DVD player is not set correctly. Look for a SETUP button on the remote control, there should be something like "QUICK SETUP" or something similar on the setup menu, if not then go to the menu that has the aspect ratio settings listed. Change your aspect ratio to 16:9 WIDESCREEN, and this should solve your problem. Your aspect ratio is 4:3 which is for a regular TV, if the images (especially people) look real skinny and tall on your TV then your aspect ratio is not properly set. Good luck to you!

The size of the picture is too big for the screen, cutting off the heads of anyone tall.

You need to change the aspect ratio. From the menu try the different aspect options. Sounds as if it is set to zoom
Let me know what you find.
