I have the manual safely put away Where I have no idea
    so here goes
stand with your back against the driven post and there are 2 rubbing blocks facing to your right about 750 mm in and around 200 apart
the chain runs around the curved face of each
towards the driving post there are 2 rubbing blocks facing to your left the chain runs around the curved face of these blocks
the block to the right of these 2 is spring loaded with a microswitch that stops the lift motor if the chain breaks Place the chain so that it runs past there blocks , almost parallel but the blocks will position the running chain in a slight Z pattern
adjust the blocks so that the chain is under enough tension so that the spring loaded block is about 3/4 compressed
This makes for easy running with out the chain flapping and hitting the floor
I have a photo on my I pad but cannot work out how to include it
make sure that both posts are all the way down or at equal height as they move together and it is a requirement that they be level with each other

Thank you once again for your time in providing me with the necessary information Bill. I really do appreciate it. This hoist belongs to my cousin who lives in the bush and he is not too computer literate so I am trying to chase down this information for him. He bought the hoist second hand and it came with an unfitted new chain. I haven’t seen the hoist myself but I heading up to see him the week-end after next and we will fit this chain as per your instructions. Many thanks once again.
    Jeff

    now for more information
the chain has virtually no clearance around the cog when the post is mounted, and it may be necessary to remove the post bolts so that it can be move to allow the chain to fit in the cogs first
take couple a heavy guys with you as the lifting arms will be attached to the post and they will unbalance the post
The post and arms assembled will run to more than 200 kg so be prepared for a lot of heavy lifting and manoeuvring
remove the rubbing blocks to allow you to lay the chain and the refit the blocks
    that will make it easier
The blocks should be on slot so after the chain is laid in and connected
you fit the blocks and then push them against the chain
the posts have to be perfectly upright and securely bolted to concrete at least 200MM (6") thick ( it is recommended to use chemiset hilti/ramset) anchor bolts for the feet of the bottom section on which the posts are mounted

I have a 2012 Mazda 2. Sitting on the road and turning the steering wheel 90 degrees right and left it makes a clunking noise. Put up on a hoist and doing the same it makes no noise. What is it.

the noise is generated by the weight on the points that are turning
the hoist you should be using is a 4 post hoist that the car drives on and the wheels are still on the hoist
any hoist that leaves the wheels dangling in the air will not be suitable to find the fault
most likely a steering ball joint end , suspension ball joint or failed suspension rubber mount

How do I manually get my 2000 Maxima manual tranny out of third gear?

If it is stuck in third gear, either your shift linkage is binding (which can be corrected by hoisting the vehicle and figuring out why it is binding), or your transmission has no fluid in it anymore.

I can't get the spare tire out of the rack? 2004 yukon

  • Rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise in order to lower the spare tire to the ground. Continue to rotate the shaft until the spare tire can be pulled out from under the vehicle and removed. If the spare tire does not lower to the ground, the secondary latch is engaged causing the tire not to lower.
  • If the secondary latch is engaged and the cable end is visible, perform the following procedure: 3.1. Tighten the cable by rotating the hoist shaft clockwise until you hear 2 clicks or feel it skip twice. You cannot overtighten the cable. 3.2. Loosen the cable by rotating the hoist shaft counterclockwise 3 or 4 turns. 3.3. If the spare tire can be lowered, repeat steps 1 and 2 to see if the spare tire can be removed. 3.4. If the spare tire cannot be lowered, rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise until approximately 15 cm (6 in) of cable is exposed. 3.5. Raise and support the vehicle. 3.6. Place a transmission jack, or equivalent, under the spare tire. 3.7. Position the center of the transmission jack under the secondary latch release button at the center of the spare tire. Arrange the arms of the transmission jack so they will support the tire after it has been released. 3.8. Raise the jack until the spare tire stops moving upward and is firmly held in place, releasing the secondary latch. 3.9. Lower the tire. If the spare tire is hanging by the cable, rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise until the tire is low enough to remove.

Got a 96 mercury sable with a transmission problem I would like to replace it but dont have any manuals to describe process. Can you help? Thanks Pat

To replace the transmission you will need to:

    lift the vehicle
support then engine using a hoist
Support the transmission using a hoist
Unbolt the motor mounts (There are 4 of them)
    Lower the engine 8 - 10 inches
    Unbolt the transmission
    Lower the transmission
Raise up the new transmission and follow the steps in reverse.

Trust me, this is NOT fun :( the top transmission bolt is REALLY hard to get to.
