Go to My Computer, then the TomTom drive and click explore. Move your Map folder to the desktop. Then, delete everything on the tomtom drive. Unplug it, plug it back in, and start up Tomtom HOME and install all updates, keep unplugging, plugging back in, and installing updates until there aren't any more updates. Then move your map folder back to where it was on your TomTom drive.

SOURCE: Upload latest western europe map v7.20 to TOMTOM 700 not possible

I have managed to solve the problem of loading a new map on my Go700 using a Mac. I discovered that Tomtom is incompatible with the Leopad operaying system, despite the protestations of the idiots at Tomtom ,so I reverted to an older Mac using Tiger.
Taking the instructions given to crinold, I tried to erase the disc on the 700 using home 1.5 - and it didn't work. So I went to disc utilities, highlighted and erased the Tomtom disc, and opened home 2,5. After being refused entry several times, like being told to load an already loaded device, I persevered, and managed, slowly, to add the map I had bought for 78 euros. T]One point oif interes is that when I bought the map, they site stated it would cost 63 pounds sterling, but switched it to euros when the invoice arrived. at a rate very favourable to Tomtom - funny, that.
This is sharp practice, probably illegal in many countries,, but, to be honest, dealing with the mysterious Tomtom company is so frustrating, that I don't have the time or inclination to fight them for the money they cheated from me.
How they survive with such an awful product and extremely bad after sales service is hard to understand - perhaps they won't ... we live in hope.

SOURCE: I cannot download maps into my tomtom avn2210p

I would suggest you to look into Underground GPS forum. It has some good info. TomTom official site is not the only way to get and update maps on AVN2210P. Currently I am using version 840 latest USA and Canada map with Navcore 7.833 with no issue. Good luck.

SOURCE: invalid version of TomTom application installed on

For users with Smartphones, Pocket PCs etc using TomTom Navigator 6,7 or 8. Please do the following...

If you have installed the application TomTom Navigator to your SD/MMC Storage card as supposed to your device storage then you need to uninstall TomTom Navigator. This will not affect your maps etc. These stay on your stotage card. After you have unistalled TomTom Navigator. Reinstall it but this time when asked where you wish to install it select Device, do NOT install it to the storage card.

Once done lauch TomTom Navigator and follow the setup instructions. Enable Map Share if you you want to use it. When you are finished with configuring the setup close TomTom. Connect your device to your PC/Laptop and open TomTom Home. The error message should now be gone plus if you were not recieving map updates and map shares etc you will now.

How can I update maps on my tomtom when I lost my bar code and receipt it is only 5 mths old

You do not need the barcode or receipt to register and update a tomtom.
Connect to a PC and download 'my drive connect' from the tomtom website.
Register the device with you name and email address and follow on screen instructions to update.

Tried to attach to computer to update since then all I get when turning it on is a flashing red cross and can not soft reset

Since you have said that your TomTom is only displaying a flashing cross (or "X"), it is because the TomTom application is not installed or can not be found. This usually happenes when you attempt to update your unit and it is interrupted (i.e., not properly disconnected from the computer, the TomTom was underpowered by using a USB port on your monitor/keyboard, or lost power during the update. In fact, it might just be pissy.)

Down to how to fix it: You essentially just need to reinstall the application.

1. Soft reset (I know you have already done this but am providing a link just in case: http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php?&p_faqid=6965)

2. Connect you’re GPS unit to your computer

3. Press the power button for about 5 seconds and the TomTom Home will start.

NOTE: It is highly recommended that you use TomTom HOME to make a backup. You can find out how to do this here: http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3171&Lid=1

4. Delete application files (so we can do a clean install), to do this:
- in HOME, click "MANAGE MY NAVIGATION DEVICE"
- Select the ITEMS ON DEVICE tab and tick the box by "APPLICATIONS".
- Then click REMOVE ITEMS FROM DEVICE
- A warning will pop-up, click "OK"
- Select the ITEMS ON COMPUTER tab and tick the box by APPLICATIONS
- Then click REMOVE ITEMS FROM COMPUTER
- Another warning will pop-up, click "OK"

5. Reinstall the TomTom Application by clicking UPDATE MY DEVICE
- Then click UPDATE AND INSTALL
- Once done, click DEVICE > DISCONNECT DEVICE

6. Next, we're going to run the TomTom Clear Flash Tool (the downloads include step-by-step directions for clearing the flash)
- for windows: http://www.tomtom.com/updates/clear_flash/clear_flash.exe
- for mac: http://www.tomtom.com/updates/clear_flash/clear_flash.dmg

7. Safely disconnect.
- on windows: click the SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE ICON (a icon with a green arrow that is hanging out in the system tray and then choose "USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE" from the pop-up
-on a mac: drag the desktop icon of your device to your trash.

8. Your device should start up automatically. If it hasn't within 10-15 seconds, press the on/off button.

You're done!
If by chance this still doesn’t work, you can try formatting the internal memory or memory card of your TomTom. If you need a link or directions, simply send me a message or reply!

Hope this helps!

My tomtom go 700 is about 5 years old and i need to update the maps how do i start?

1.First of all check that TOMTOM actually still support this product and only perform updates using a wired network connection - WIFI can drop out and corrupt the downloads
2.Then see if they actually are supplying a new map for the 700
3.Without activating TOMTOM Home, plug your GO700 into your PC and let it recognise the 'drive assignment'
4.Take a FULL backup of all files on the TOMTOM 2Gb disk on your PC NOTE: this is totally separate and additional to any backups you might make with TOMTOM Home.
5.Disconnect your TOMTOM
6.Start your TOMTOM Home software and perform an update check from the 'help' drop down menu
7.Once you have this updated connect your TOMTOM
8.Perform a full backup again with the TOMTOM Home software
9.Search using TOMTOM Home for any GO700 application software updates and install these (NOTE - ONLY INSTALL THE APPLICATION UPDATES)
10.Reboot your GO700 to make sure that it works with any application updates
11.Re-connect your TOMTOM and this time perform a search for map updates to purchase and follow the instructions.
12.It is very likely that TOMTOM Home will say that there is not enough space on the drive to install the new map, it will follow an automatic process to remove your old map and then install the new one that you have purchased on lne from TOMTOM.
13. If Home has installed your new map correctly, when you log off and disconnect your GO700 it should then initialise - the long time bar rebuidling the maps and then start up normally. It can be necessary to reset your GO700 using the rest button under the base.

GOOD LUCK, This is currently a very messy process but one which seems to work for recovering the GO700 in the event of a failure, TOMTOM have been hopeless for me in getting any maps installed on a GO700, so this is my way of getting round their lousy support service.

When i turn it on it freezes.

Hello, I own a TomTom also. I have listed the procedures from TomTom Home and hope this will work. First try a soft reset (Reset button is located at the bottom of the TomTom device next to where the DC plug plugs in). Make sure your batteries are fully charged up or the USB cord is plugged in.

If your device is not starting up properly, follow the steps below:
  1. Soft reset your device. *

  2. If your device still does not start up, then reinstall the TomTom application using HOME
If you have backed up your TomTom to your computer, then you can reinstall the TomTom application from your backed up data. *    In rare cases, your TomTom device may not start correctly or may stop responding. If this happens, try resetting your device. A reset does not delete any data.

My 720 frozen

This solution can be used in the following situations:

• The device hangs in the start screen (splash screen )
• An SD-card with a red cross is displayed on the screen
• A picture with a red dot and white cross is displayed
• The device can’t be turned off

If you haven't already done so, please download and Install TomTom Home from http://www.tomtom.com/7602

If you don’t have a full backup of your TomTom yet we advise you to make one before continuing with the steps in this email. You can make a backup by following the steps below:

1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect it to your computer.
2. Click on 'Backup and Restore -> Backup' in TomTom Home 2.0
3. Enter a name for the backup and click [OK]
• IMPORTANT: When the software is asking to delete parts from the backup click [NO]

After the backup is made you delete the files from the root directory of the TomTom. Follow the steps below to do this:

1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect it to your computer.
2. Open My Computer in Windows, or Finder in Macintosh from your desktop and turn on your TomTom device.
3. On your screen a new removable disk appears, this is your TomTom device, click on the disk to open it.
4. You will see a list of folders and a list of loose files
5. Delete all of the loose files. IMPORTANT: The folders with their content must NOT be deleted.
5. Close the window when all files are deleted by clicking on the [x].

Next we will reinstall the application via TomTom HOME.

1. Start TomTom HOME on your computer
• TomTom Home should automatically check for updates and prompt you to install them, if not:-
2. Click on 'Update my device'. If you get the message 'No Items Available', or there is not an application to download, click on 'Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc -> Items on my computer', select the application and click on 'Add'.
3. Select the Application update.
4. Click on 'Device -> Disconnect Device', then turn off your device when it is done installing and disconnect it from your computer.
5. On a PC, in the System Tray by the computer clock, click on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon and disconnect the TomTom also in this way.

When switching on the device it should boot as normal again.

Tomtom keeps rebooting by itself soon after being switched on

Here is a solution that worked in my case (constant reboots after voice select)
  1. Plug your tomtom into your PC.
  2. Run TomTom Home
  3. Select the option to run your TomTom through your PC (TT Home)
  4. You should be greated with the select language screen
  5. Then simply select language etc.
  6. When you get to the voice selection: select a voice (here TTHome should freeze) <- also strangely enough notice the cancel button doesn't on the screen (as it does when doing this on the device)
  7. Don't panic TT Home should start working again in a few seconds
  8. Disconnect your TomTom and that should have solved the problem, the normal map screen should show up upon starting up your TomTom
This solved the issue for me, hope it does for you good luck!

TomTom device frozen

If your device freezes at the start-up screen after you turn it on or your device is looping, the TomTom application may not be installed properly.

See some examples of start-up screens here. The image may vary on previous TomTom devices or if you have replaced the image.

Before you begin, make sure you have TomTom HOME installed on your computer (www.tomtom.com/home ).

To solve this, follow the steps below.
Remove the current application

1. Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable or dock.
2. Reset your device.
3. Turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.
  • Your device should automatically connect to the computer upon reset. If your TomTom device asks you if you want to connect to your computer, tap YES.

4. Run TomTom HOME.
5. In the Main Menu of HOME click on Remove items from my device.
remove_items_from_my_device_uk.gif 6. Click on the plus symbol homeplus.gif next to Applications. Click in the checkbox on the right to select the application.
7. You will be prompted to confirm the selection, choose Yes.
8. Click on Remove selected items.
2352_08.gif 9. Choose OK.
10. You will be asked to copy the item to your computer before removing, do not copy the item. Instead, choose Back.
The application will then be removed.

Reinstall the TomTom application:
1. Start TomTom HOME.
2a. If you previously updated your device on this computer, click Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc. and then click Items on my computer.
You can install the application by clicking the plus symbol homeplus.jpg and then Add.

654_03_us.jpg
2b. If you never updated your device on this computer, click Update my device.

attention_25.gif If HOME asks you to Unplug your TomTom device, try clicking OK first. If HOME notes that a problem has occured, click Back.

3. HOME offers to download and install the latest version of the TomTom application.

1732_application_update_us.jpg
4. After the application has been installed, click Done and then click Device > Disconnect Device.

Your device should now start-up again. Since you have reinstalled the application, please allow a full 2 minutes for the TomTom device to fully boot.
