Re: how to replace the crt on a phillips rear projection...
No trick... It's a difficult task for most techs. On a scale between 1 - 10 and 10 being the most difficult you have a 10.5 there and the fun is just beginning..

Is it a LCD or a CRT Phillips TV.
If LCD - could be the lamp just getting old (lot of hours on lamp). Could find the model # of the TV and do a Google search of the TV Model # to find a replacement lamp. If its an older CRT Projection TV the tubes may be getting old and unable to illuminate/glow as they used too! Much like a old set of headlamps on a car.
sounds like a Phillips or magnavox that has bad CRT coolant which needs replacement. If so you can get the Phillips CRT coolant repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com it comes with instructions and the coolant for all three CRts,
The CRT coolant in the Blue CRT needs replacement. The green will soon follow. Very common problem with phillips. You can get the phillips CRT coolant kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which contains the coolant and the CD with instructions.
Thats the classisc symptom of a phillips which needs the CRT coolant replaced. You can get the Phillips CT coolant replacement kit at the following link which has the Coolant and the CD with complete instructions. Its listed under the Phillips Repair kit category. http://www.tvrepairworld.com/
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
