I have a LG 55 inch tv that the screen sometimes goes black or half black. still has sound. Would the main board be the problem of the driver board?
There isn't a driver board in your set. It could be either the main or the tcon board
Testimonial: "I've heard about the tcon board, but i only see 3 boards when I take the back panel off. One at the top that I am thinking is the driver board, one on the right that has all of the inputs, and one on the left that is the power board. It is not all the time. i may work great for a while and then have an issue and it may work fine the next time we turn it on."
What is the model of your TV?...If the one at the top is in the middle that is the timing controller board or tcon...its the board that takes the raw video from the main board via the LVDS cable and mixes everything together to get the picture on the screen...the board on the left is almost always the power board and the one on the right is the main board, one variation to this would be for one of the boards to be the inverter board if you have a LCD TV and with 3 boards there would not be a Tcon and it be built into the panel board...Hope that makes sense to you

I do not see any cables going from the board on the right (inputs board) to the one in the middle. At least it does not look like it does directly. The board on the right has 2 of those flat data cables that come and and go to the bottom of the TV. The board in the middle is the smallest and has some regular wires going into the top of the TV. I did not break the TV down any further that taking the back panel off.
The board on the top in the center with the metal cover over it is the Tcon board, that is the one I would suspect is making your picture dark, there are a few other things that would do it but more times than not its the Tcon giving issues. One other thing you could test is the PMW (pulse width modulation) terminal of the power board, that is the signal from the main board that controls the brightness..it should be 3 to 4 volts depending on your brightness setting in the menu, what you want to watch is if that voltage is going down when the set gets darker
Know a good place to order one from?
I get most my boards from shopjimmy.com..You can find them cheaper on ebay but Ive had a lot of issues with people selling boards on there where they have no idea what a good or bad board is and nothing is worst than getting a replacement and put it in and it still doesn't work, its a guessing game then if there are other issues or the board is bad.
Since it is a intermitting problem, I finally got a picture of the issue. I guess it wouldn't be a black screen, more of fade to grey. still think its the TCON?
Its either the panel or the Tcon board, but I'd lean towards the board

SOURCE: Have LG 42 inch plasma, 1 inch black line down
Sounds like the middle scalar board is defective. Since the issue comes and goes it could just be a loose connection to the between the scalar board and the PDP Module (plasma panel).
Great caution needs to be taken when checking this connection because it is a ribbon cable connection it and needs to be put in correctly aligned or it could cause a short in one of the circuit boards.
SOURCE: the main inner screen of my LG Muziq phone
i have (had?) the same problem , and i found that the phone wasnt being flipped open all the way, so i would bend it backwards a fracitona of a degree and it would light up. It still sometimes goes black . Seems to me, theres something wrong in the hinge area, as it also makes a clicking noise . I love this phone, but i had to get it repaired once, and im not doing it again. Also laying it flat on a desk by the keypad, then banging the display backwards works :D . Just fiddle with the display portion, and you'll get the hang of it .
SOURCE: bottom half of screen goes black, what could be wrong?
