Hello, Willem -
You will need to ask your question of the electric power utility which supplies the school with electricity (in South Africa?)
Perhaps the rate for electricity has increased drastically lately. Have you compared the usage from the previous month (kilowatt hours) with the same time period the previous year? If the usage amount from 12 months prior is similar to the usage amount in the previous month, then it is clear the rate per kilowatt hour increased significantly. I am answering from the USA where we receive advance notices of electricity rate increases.
Or, has the usage amount (kilowatt hours) increased greatly? If the usage amount increased significantly, then, there has been an increase in electricity consumed. Have more electrically-run computers or other equipment been added in the school? Are school staff and students recharging their personal portable electronic devices with school electricity and not at home? Is there suspicion that someone or some entity is pirating school electricity?
By the way, Fixya.com is intended as a website for questions and answers on how to go about REPAIRING _THINGS_. Plus, your question landed in a Fixya category for Computers & Internet and not one relevant to electric power utilities.
Best wishes.
