The mic is tight in the shoe and it is on but the display has a red x. How do I get the sound to work?
Well it may be that your audio might be on mute. It is difficult to advice, as I do not know your OS. Check out the speaker Icon, see if it is set properly, oh! don't forget to check the audio control on youtube frame or any other player you may be using. Don't worry it is not complicated check all parameters peacefully.....I hope this helps. Audio settings is your Mecca.
Testimonial: "Well, I clearly said it was a camcorder, not a computer."

im wondering why it cant be repaired down to componet level as if the servicer has a schematic its probaly not more then a cap a diode or both snf msybr sa resistor as they do have a protection curcuit on thes camcorders that wount let it distroy the Board Maybe you need another servicer??? Im not sure of your queistion on the adaptor But im sure that if you look in your owners manual it will assist you in where to call to get or buy accessorys. Good luck
SOURCE: Sound recording with external microphone
An instruction manual is available for download at www.canon.com
Your camera, according to the manual, has a single input for microphones, and in the internal menu, AUDIO DUB has to be set to MIC. IN. when using an add-on microphone. An MA-300 hot-shoe microphone accessory can be used, and then the input controls would be on this device, not the camera. Your camera can also record in two different audio qualities: 16-bit two channel or 12-bit four channel. If you are using an accessory you may need to select 12-bit in the internal setup menu in order to have enough channels to add on the additional microphone(s).
Finally, and hopefully not, the camera may have an internal hardware problem, and so would need to be serviced.

If you put the camcorder in manual mode, there is a microphone sensor that will move when sound is picked up by the external microphone. In manual you can keep everything else automatic. The off for the mic means that the built in mic is turned off when an external mic is attached.
SOURCE: Playing camcorder video on TV
Hello there. The only way to hook up your camcorder to the tv is if you change the settings of your camcorder. Every camcorder has a different setting menu so you might just have to look it up in the manual. Or maybe your cables are not connected properly.
SOURCE: JVC Everio GZ HD-40's external microphone problem
I have the GZ-HD40 and have tested the scenario below.
The problem is that the Microphones you are using are Mono, not Stereo. If you look at the plug on the end of your microphone you will see it has only two connections, the screen and the tip. For a Stereo mic it needs three connections screen, sleeve and tip, much like your headphone jack.
I know this is going to sound a bit nuts but use a set of head phones as a microphone. You will notice the left speaker acts as the left mic and the right speaker as the right mic.
Use microphone JVC MZ-V8 Stereo microphone and you will see that it has the three connectors as I have stated above.
Hope this helps.
