Microsoft has abandoned support for XP. Given how buggy and vulnerable to attack it is, you would be far better off installing W8.1 or even W7, for which you will have to pay

I don't think there is a virus on Facebook. At least not what is saved in the cloud. I'm afraid you need a good virus scanner on your computer. When you have Windows 7 or 8 you can get a free, and good security from Microsoft, install that. Microsoft Security Essentials Microsoft Windows

I believe the best internet explorer for windows XP is version 8. Version 9 is the most advanced with full html5 support but XP doesn't support this, so here is the link for 8. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=43
You could also use FireFox which, in my opinion, is faster, more secure and more reliable then Internet Explorer.
