You would have to dismantle the laptop and remove the BIOS battery for 5 mins then re-insert it to reset the BIOS to factory setting. I found this reset option (picture below) online but have never tried it ..............

There should not be a password set in the BIOS unless you set it up with one. You can clear the BIOS to BRAND NEW state. Acer can guide you through this if it is under warranty. If it is not, write back and I will help you do this.

You need to try to isolate the problem. Try connecting an external monitor to your laptop. Press function screen keys. If you have a picture on your external monitor then you have a video problem - most likely an inverter, although you may need a new screen, unlikely but possible.

If you have no picture then you have a system problem. Disconnect the battery and AC adapter. Remove the memory and reseat. Repower your laptop and see what happens.

I take it that you've forgot your bios password.. Take off your side cover of PC (check this through your manual if you have it) and look for a round shiny battery. near there you will see 'clr cmos'. Next to that you may see 3 pins with 1 jumper. Disconnect power source. Take the jumper off it's present 2 contacts the 'jump the centre on and the one that was open. Count 5 secs and reverse back to original 2 jumpers. Your bios will tell you ( when you reboot) that cmos needs setting. Your password has now gone from your bios. I you have a password on your hard-drive try downloading Hirens Boot Disk 15. I need to turn off the hard drive password on my accer aspire 5532

You can download a password recover program from the net and run it, it will either tell you your password or reset if for you. Once you are in your system you can go into your security settings for the main user and disable the password protection.

Forgot my BIOS Password for Acer 5630 and I NEED HELP!!

open all the compartments on the bottom. It will not be in with the battery but it might be with the hard drive or the memory. when you find it, it will be obvioius. It might be under the keyboard and the keyboard might be easy to remove. look for latches just above the F keys. That is where my compaq keyboard latches are located. I didnt check the WWW for your model and I didnt look at my little Acer ... in the basement.

Im sorry I was so hard on you before - it has been a ruff day here at the milleraba household. water is trying (and succedding) to get into my freshly carpeted basement. I really shouldnt be fooling around here - I should be tending to the basement. I did manage to get a hole in the concrete and a pump installed ...not perfect but will have to do till morning...

How do I get round a safe boot screen which

Best way would be to give the computer back to the owner and ask them to enter the password... If you have no idea what the password is, I can only assume that this does not belong to you.

If you bought it this way, sorry to say, the only way to get around that is to format the hard drive and reinstall the OS, as SafeBoot is a form of Whole Hard Drive Encryption.

You may need to enter the BIOS and set the machine to boot from the optical drive first so that you can boot the recovery/OS disc, this is, if the boot function key (F12) has been disabled. Try pressing F12 at the POST screen (Dell logo) and see if the Boot menu comes up. If it does, you can boot the disc from there, without messing with the BIOS settings.

Forgot my password in cmos harddisk

The hard disk password is setup using the BIOS configuration, this password is stored on the hard disk and there are no backdoor passwords you can use except the password you created and if you know this password then you can remove it permanently using the BIOS configuration. Moving this hard drive into another laptop will not work either, it won't allow access to this hard disk.
Your only option is to purchase a new hard drive to replace the one with the password.
If you also created a BIOS password, you need this password to get into the BIOS configuration.

All these passwords are created by users to prevent unauthorized access into the laptop and hard disk.

Boot problem

There are three possible options ranging from free (if you are not afraid to open your laptop, locate and remove the bios battery) to $170 (for a new hard drive and a cloning kit).

Option 1: Here is a copy of an email from Acer Support:
Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. In order to have the BIOS or hard disk password removed (This include any biometric security), the notebook will need to come in to our repair depot for password removal. This service is not covered by warranty and unfortunately there is no other recourse to remove a BIOS or HDD password from the notebook. The flat fee for BIOS password removal is $100.00 US dollars plus tax. If it is a BIOS or HDD password and you would like us to service it for you, please contact our telephone technical support line at 1-800-816-2237. Hours of operation are 7am-9pm CST Monday-Friday and 8am-5pm CST Saturday and Sunday, excluding holidays.

Option 2: Resetting an Acer BIOS Password Using Hardware.
If you cannot boot the Acer and don't want to send your computer back to Acer for an unknown amount of time, you can try to reset the BIOS password via hardware.
Tech FAQ Forum members have reported that they were able to remove their Acer BIOS passwords by simply opening their notebooks and removing the CMOS batteries for 30 minutes.
Once your BIOS password is removed, you will need to press the <F2> key during POST (Power On Self Test) to enter the Acer BIOS setup.

Option 3: Possibly resetting BIOS Password using Hard Drive Upgrade Kit and a new Hard Drive.
A colegue told me that he used a hard drive upgrade kit and during the cloning process the hard drive password was erased. He can not recall providing the password when he booted from the bootable cloning CD provided with the Kit and when he replaced the hard drive with the cloned one and botted the laptop, the hard drive password was gone! He had to go into bios to manually enter a new hard drive password.
The kit he used was about $50 - APRICORN EZ-UP-UNIVERSAL 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive Upgrade Kit - Retail. He paid for a bigger hard drive separately, but he just needed bigger hard drive (and found out about the password erasure by accident).
