I humbly disagree with Sea Breeze. We know the thermostat (cold control) is working because the fans are running and the compressor is hot to the touch. So we're getting power to the compressor. Now, only TWO things will keep the compressor from firing up when it has power supplied to it.
1.) A failed Starter. (that box connected to the left side of the compressor.)
2.) A failed compressor.

Then there are two things that'll take out the starter.
1.) Just a mechanical failure within the starter (blown ceramic disk). Note ---> You can normally tell if a starter is bad just by taking it off the compressor and shaking it. If it sounds like it has pebbles in it... it's bad. If it's solid, it's probably good.
2.) If the compressor locks up or fails, the starter is not far behind.

This Kenmore is made by Frigidaire. My experience with these is that 90% of the time, the compressor has locked up. You said you had access to the compressor... if it's made by Tecumseh (you'll see a blue Indian head logo on the sticker) I can almost guarantee it's failed. (Frigidaire is now putting Embraco compressors in their machines because Tecumseh was such a terrible one.)

All that to say this... you may decide that you want to replace the starter (if it's bad/rattling). If you do, go here and look at parts # 211 & 251 on the diagram... you'll need these. So, all-in-all, it'd cost around $20 plus shipping to replace the starter. If the new starter works? Great! You fell within the 10%... (almost like winning the lottery!) If the starter doesn't work, all you're out is the $20.

Good luck,
SG

SOURCE: Fan running,both cold settings at 4 , freezer 14 degrees C

you need to replace the start components on the compressor, theres a relay that mounts on to the compressor that takes out the start winding after it starts the compressor up. You can also try whats called a three in one to try to start up the unit. Good Luck.

SOURCE: freezer cold, fridge warm

The small cooling fan in the freezer compartment that sends chilled air to the food side is defective and needs replacement.  Sometimes that are only frozen stuck.

When you receive advice from this website you have to understand that without the item in front of us, we are only able to provide "a best guess" as to what the problem might be based on you description of the defect.  If you haven't described a clear and precise description of the defect you decrease the chances of an accurate reply.  Thank you.

ZFSB26DRESS water runs warm and freezer not staying cold.

It sounds like the condenser coils , the coils by the compressor , need cleaned badly . This (and the compressor cooling fan) , can cause the compressor to cut off on overload (due to the heat) , thereby not circulation refrigerant thru out the freezer coils .
The water line goes from inside the freezer door ( cold ) , under the refrig ( warm ) , then to the inside refrig water reservoir ( cold ) . After that , you should get cold water , until the reservoir is drained of cold water .

I worked on an old delfield freezer hat had r12 in it and the condensor fan and compressor would turn on when I plugged it in but the evaporator fan motor would not come on. I ran 120 vac to it and it ran,...

some older models ran power throughthe door/ light switches, for the evaporator fan, or perhaps even ewired through the defrost thermostat( reason for that is if evap is warm no need to run a fan and circulate hot air through the cabinet did you try letting run for a while mighttake 20-30 min to get cold enough to trip the defrost thermo.I usuallly hit it with a shot of the freon just ot freeze it shut real quick
