SOURCE: the wand has no suction

There's a clog somewhere then - probably at the end of the hose which means you should take off the hose at the bottom by the cord clip and have a look. Also check all inspection air ways to ensure there are no clogs. Usually if there's no suction through the handle a tell tale sign is that something has either got stuck or there's a tear in the hose. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: hi my dyson dc18 has great suction from wand but

My Dyson dc18 had the same symptoms. The wand worked well and the floor bar had no suction. After removing pieces & shoving my fingers into the machine (no blockage) I found the suction pipe rotates between two positions (floor and wand). It looks like a piece of plastic broke on the outside housing, so it no longer rotates positions when the wheels are raised or lowered. My son found we can move the suction by sliding a finger into the mechanism behind the wheel cover, and rotating the plastic piece clock-wise or counter clock-wise until it locks into position. It's a big pain but it works for now. I wish I could find a replacement piece online. Patty

Check the ducting that goes from the floor pick-up into the machine, fluff etc often clogs the elbow. Check the pipe that plugs into the floor pick-up as well, it could be clogged further up.

Shark rotator no suction

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

If the dust cup is too full, there is no space for the dirt to go when you are vacuuming. To fix this, remove the dust cup and empty the it.

If your vacuum is still not picking up dirt after emptying the dust cup, there may be something blocking the airway. There are two places where you can check for a blockage: the dust cup air duct and the intake opening behind the brush roll. To check for a blockage in the dust cup air duct stand the vacuum upright and remove the dust cup. Now you can disconnect the super stretch hose and check for clogs in the air duct behind the dust cup. If that is not the case, to check for a clog near the roller brush lay the vacuum down. Next check the opening behind the brush roll for clogs. If there is debris, clean the opening with scissors, carefully cutting away any debris.

Uncleaned filters may also the reason why your vacuum has lost suction. To clean the foam and felt filters, remove the dust cup and pull out the two filters that are on the top of the motor base. Rinse the filters with lukewarm water until the water is running clear. Let the filters dry fully before putting them back into the vacuum.

If your vacuum is still not picking up dirt, you may need to replace it.
Unfortunately, if none of the other solutions worked, your motor is going bad. Most of the time a new motor costs as much as the vacuum itself and it is not easy to replace the motor. It may be time for a new vacuum.

Centralux

Low suction is either a clogged pipeline (very rare), a broken or open inlet valve in the system, a clogged hose or wand system, a clogged washable filter, the small screen behind the filter when removed needs cleaned, or the motor itself. Would need more detailed info. to pinpoint but hope it helped!

Vacuum shrinks, power is still on but no suction

perhaps there is something stuck in the vacuum. Look where the hose fits in. There is obvioulsy no blockage in the hose because you have suction. Do the power brushes spin on the vacuum?? Take the bag off, and inspect the area the bag fits in for blockage.

It wont pick up with a new bag in and it seems to **** back in

Check if there is something stuck in the the suction tube, telescopic wand or in any of the parts involved. I had the same problem due to a number of chocolate wrappers stuck in the wand. I almost went and bought another one, luckily i had the sense to ask the salesman at sears the same question and he put me on the right path. The suction tube and wand are detachable from the unit, so you should be able to unplug the parts and check. This is the same solution if you motor is running fine but you have lost suction and\or bag shows full when it is not. Hope i am saving someone some money by stating the obvious here, just the way the sears salesman helped me.

Dyson hose looses suction

You have a blockage in the wand. Stand behind the machine and:
1) Remove the u-bend which is located NEXT to the right-hand side wheel, NOT above it. It connects from the bottom of the long gray hose to next to the right-hand side wheel. It is attached to the machine with a rectangular-shaped clip - push the clip and pull the pipe down.
2) Look through the wand if you can (DC07 wand is bent) - if you can't see the ground you have a blockage in either the hose or the wand
3) Remove the hose and separate it from the wand - hold the wand up into the air and look through it - if you can't see light coming through the other end, there is a blockage in the wand. Use a long object like a stick or a metal hanger to remove the blockage.
4) If the wand is clear, stretch the hose out and look for dark spots - those are the blockages. Again use a long object to remove the blockage - be careful not to damage the hose, you don't want to buy a new one.

Vacuum not picking up

At the top of your wand, do you have a plastic swivel that cover a hole in the wand? This is for when you are cleaning curtains, and if that is open, or cracked you will loose suction there... also check your hose for cracks, or breaks. If it were in the shop I would put a gauge on it... normal suction is about 80-95 inches of water lift at the end of the hose. Once you have check each section of the hose, and wand, check the housing for cracks, a missing gasket (Very Good Reason For Lack Of Suction) As to your Filter, how long have you used that one filter, you can clean them for a while, but once a paper filter gets full of FINE dust you won't get it all out, you will have to replace the filter itself at that point. I hope this was helpful.
