try this, take off the top cover. plug in the heater and when the humming starts, rotate the fan sharply with a screwdriver. keep your fingers away from the fan. if the fan spins under power your start winding is shot. get a new motor. www dot desatech dot com

When you say that the fan starts then stops I assume you also mean that the burner starts and stops. If this is correct and the unit is more than a couple of years old you probably need to change the filter in the back and set the pump pressure. Both the filters and the gauges to set the pressure can be found at www.reddyheat.com along with a good explanation as to why you need the gauges. The pressure is set by bleed air pressure and must be exactly 3.5 psig. The gauge is the only accurate way to do it. The filters clog and change the pressure. When the difference is enough the unit will not run. Now with that said there are several other things which you should check. Check the fuel tank for water. Remove any you find. Remove the cover on the right side as you look at the unit from the front and remove the circuit board. Check for cracked connections. If you find any resolder them and reattach the board. That should take care of the unit and get you back to making heat. Let me know if you need anything else.

Is there a customers service number i can call for my reddy heater problems

I would call Beals & Bobs @ 712-225-6173 or you can go to www.bealsmotor.com and email them and they will answer you questions and email an owners manual if you want. They have a service manual for these heaters at http://www.bealsmotor.com/heater.html and then click on the Desa manual that you need. The kerosene manual if for heaters with a spark plug and the Hot surface manual is for heaters with an ignitor.

Reddy 3500 kerosene heater runs till it gets warmed up then it coughs smoke then shuts down. I put in a new spark plug didn't help. The heater is about 7 or 8 years old.

I have a 150000 master heater that ran out of kerosene i changed filters and air line. filled with kerosene and the fan comes on but it will not ignite. spark plug does ignite. thanks

When filled with kerosene then plugged in, the heater will kick on for about 3 seconds and the fan will run but it will not ignite, then it shuts off. reddy heater 55, 55000btu. runs on K1 or fuel oil.

the kerosine heater uses a spark plug for ignition and a photocell to detect flame. at the back end of the blower motor is an air compressor. it is a vane and diaphragm compressor that supposed to put out 3.6 psi of air to the fuel nozzle. the fuel nozzle is a venturi type that creates a vacuum across the orifice to suck fuel from the tank. try this site for spare parts www dot desatech dot com. its the same place I get parts for repairing heaters.
