Allow it to dry by leaving the door open. Moisture equals mildew

SOURCE: mildew smell

Are you useing HE detergent? If not this is your problem! The reason why you need to use HE detergent is because it is made specifically for front load washers. The regular soap is made to be deluted in 20 gallons of water your washer only fills up with about 7. so what it does is it leaves a layor of residue SINKY SINKY. Especially when you leave the door shut all the time. It's like a Bathroom if you do not ventilate it properly it will Sink eventualy. So also please leave the door cracked open.
So to getr ride of the smell Sears sells a product called Afresh or Washer Magic I prefer the Afresh you get 3 tablets and it works great atr removing odors out of your washer. Also if you are on a Well wateer it is safe to use. Or you could use good old bleach with no clothes till the smell goes away

SOURCE: Bosch smu2046uc doesn't drain completely (water

check the following parts for their operational value. replace any failed part.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

SOURCE: Hi--I love my Whirlpool Duet washer, but how do I

The first thing to do is to CHECK IN AND AROUND THE RUBBER DOOR BOOT (called a bellow) for small articles of clothing (like socks and underwear) that may have gotten lodged in behind the rubber. Pull the rubber back where it meets the wash tub and look behind it. It is common for small items to get stuck here, become forgotten and start to mildew. You should check this area after each wash and clean it periodically to get rid of the formation of soap scum, mold, and mildew. HINT: When you get ready to wash a load of towels, take a dirty towel and clean the door boot thoroughly (including the areas behind the rubber). Immediately place the towel in the wash and run it on a sanitary cycle. This way you eliminate the need for cleaning rags.

PERIODICALLY RUN THE WASHER ON A CLEANING CYCLE. Place the washer on the hottest setting you have (usually a Sanitary cycle) with nothing but bleach in the wash tub. Some newer models actually have a "Clean Cycle" available now just for this purpose. This helps keep the wash tub, drain lines and pump sanitized.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER. Accumulations of debris in the drain pump filter can also cause odors. HINT: If you own a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum on the line. This will drain any residual water left in the tub, pump and drain lines BEFORE you remove the drain pump cover. This will prevent a messy clean up later.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN IF POSSIBLE. When not in use, leave the door open to allow the tub to air out and to keep mold and mildew from forming on the door bellow. I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

NOTE: This problem is common with front loader style washing machines. The doors on these machines have an air tight/water tight seal that is great for sealing the washer during the wash cycle, but can be terrible for collecting small garments and for not allowing the tub to properly air out when not in use. Following these simple preventive measures can go a long way towards preventing harmful mold and mildew, and towards extending the life of the door bellow and pump.

I have a build up of mildew on the rubber seal inside the washer door-I realized too late the door has to be left open when not in use. Now the problem is how to get rid of the build up-I've tried...

Once a month, you should put a cup of bleach, white vinegar, or washer magic in your washer and run it on a hot cycle with no clothes in the washer. This will help get rid of mildew, the odor, and extra soap. The only way to get rid of the spots on your seal is to replace the seal. Make sure that you are using HE detergent and only about 2-3 Tablespoons. If you use too much soap the pump cant pump it all out and the soap will stick to the outside of the stainless steel tub. Then it will eventually get into your bearing and destroy them. After your bearings are shot, the washer will sound like a freight train when it goes into the spin cycle. Then its time for a new washer because the only way to fix the bearings is to rebuild your washer.

I'm finding mold on the inside ring of my washer, and i'm not sure how to get rid of it or prevent it.

If you are referring to a Whirlpool Duet series front loader, the following link can give you some guidance on how to prevent mold, mildew and odors associated with these style washers:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608512-getting_rid_front_loader_mildew_odor

If you are not referring to a front loader, please post back with a complete MODEL NUMBER. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: Because of the mold and mildew problems associated with these washers, the manufacturer now includes many of these recommendations in the owner's manual.

My Washing machine is retaining water in the bottom or back of the washer which is visible sometimes. It has mildewed and SMELLS! I have run the washer through the spin cycle several times and this empties...

Sounds like your drain hose is pluged with something. Try and check for small idem into drain on bottom of washer ( chain, braclet etc ) or soap buildup. Once you have determined wheather or not there is a plug to be removed, you can run cider vinegar through your wash cycle which will help reduce the mold. Plus it helps with soap clog buildups. Powered soaps tend to build up faster then liquid soaps do.

The washer has a terrible mildew smell. What can you do to eliminate this?

Take a rag and wipe out the inside of the door gasket. Also the best product to clean would be AFFRESH. You can purchase it at your local parts distributor or probably like lowes or home depot. Also leave your door cracked open between uses this will eliminate the mildew from building up.

Let me know if this helps

Hi, I have a hoover front loading washing machine and inside the drum seal there was a lot of mildew as I accidentally left some damp tea cloths inside the drum and the machine wasn't used for 2 weeks....

Run your washer with 2 cups of bleach, maximum hot water. After it starts agitating for a minute, stop the washer & let it remain for 2 hours. Then continue the wash.

WHIRLPOOL ULTIMATE CARE II MAKES YELLOW BROWN STAINS ON LIGHT COLOR CLOTHES

Grease will not come from the interior of the washer, as the machine ages build up deposits under the basket and it is oily, greasy and full of mildew. If can get a spanner wrench from a appliance parts house and remove the basket you will see on machines older than three years a build up starting. I pulled 15 lbs from a 25 year old machine and I had to go get sick outside, it was bad.

Dishes not drying and mildew growing in dishwasher

I totally agree with Solution #1. We have a Whirlpool (apparently Maytag is the same) and it gets moldy 2 days after it has been run. The maintenance guy came out and said we had to use the rinse cycle every day. For an $800 dollar dishwasher (which is less than 1 year old!) I expect more.

Mildew Smell

Let me add...I was having a problem with the washer draining. I followed these instructions http://www.fixya.com/support/r385845-checking_drain_pump_in_whirlpool_duet from this website. I found two socks and they were extremely mildewed and the junk that came out smelled. It may be worth it to check and see if there is something in the pump. It wasn't very hard to do. Let me reiterate something that was mentioned...if your washer is not in a garage or somewhere you don't mind a good bit of smelly water leaking out...definitely use a shop vac first.
