XP installation problem - HP Cpmpaq 6720s Laptop [HDD detection error]

The hard disk is not detected because this model notebook has a SATA hard drive installed and the XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX.
Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

MY BIOS IS NOT DETECTING SATA hard disk, i system is not detecting SATA hard disk

When the system is booting go into the bios settings. The option for sata drive detection may need to be turned on there, once verifying that option is on save & reboot the pc and it should detect the sata drive.

Any sata hdd can't dected by the mother board but any sata dvd dected by the mother board. what kind of procedure i followed now?

Your motherboard CAN detect a SATA device.
Your motherboard DOES detect your SATA optical device.
Your motherboard does NOT detect your SATA disk-drive.

This suggests that your disk-drive is "dead".
Exercise the WARRANTY on it, to get it repaired/replaced.
Or, if the warranty has EXPIRED, purchase a new SATA disk-drive.

I am not able to detect sata hard disk in msi mother board

Your model K8MM-V motherboard does not have a SATA controller only IDE disk controllers and therefore it cannot detect a SATA hard drive.
To install a SATA hard drive on this motherboard you need to purchase a PCI SATA disk controller and install it on the PCI expansion slot and then attach the SATA hard disk to this SATA controller.

Did not detect the additional sata hard disk?

Have you tried connecting the SATA hard-drive to a different computer, just to prove that it is not a "dud" ?

Is the SATA hard-drive getting power?
(It should warm-up a bit, and you make feel it vibrate as it spins.)

Have you tried a different SATA cable between the hard-drive and the SATA connector on the motherboard?

Check the BIOS settings, to be sure that detection of SATA drives is "enabled".

Hi, i am unable to install windows XP in pavilion dv6500 laptop. XP set up is not detecting the hard disk at all can you help me ?

Some copys of windows XP can not detect a SATA hard drive what you need to do is get hold of a later dvd copy of XP only the lastist dvd copys of XP are setup to detect SATA hard drives. It has to be a DVD copy as the CD copys do not detect SATA drives. Find some one with a new computer with SATA drives that has windows XP installed on it and try there copy of XP on your computer. Hopes this helps.

Hanging on detection of drive when installing Windows XP

Installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not a straight-forward task as Windows XP does not recognize the SATA drive. In order to install operating systems such as Windows XP on SATA drives, the latest SATA drivers are required.Download SATA drivers for the motherboard from the website and integrate them with the XP installation CD using software such as nLite. SATA drivers can also be installed as third party drivers; you will be prompted during the installation process. Without proper SATA drivers, installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not possible as SATA mode would have to be disabled in the BIOS to continue with the installation.
Installing Windows XP on a Serial ATA hard drive is not an easy task, because the system does not recognize SATA drivers at startup. Windows XP Pro SP2 fares a little better with SATA drivers, but here is what can be done in cases where the driver is not recognized.
