I am using a Bernina 1630 sewng machine and I have put on the walking foot that goes with it and did everything I could think of to resolve the problem. It looks like the parts on top of the walking foot are not moving back and forth as they should. My machine does not have presser foot adjustment :( Any help would be appreciated!!
Hm, my suspicion is the walking foot is not installed correctly. There is metal bar attached to the right side of the walking foot that has a U-shape at the end. That U-shape "has" to surround the needle screw. In effect, when the needle goes up and down, it will cause the U-shaped bar to also go up and down causing the walking feet to move.
Hi can i ask you did your walking foot come with the machine cause if it didn't that could be your problem let me know so then we can check other avenues ;

Hi I have a 15 year old Frister Rossmann serger which I got second hand 10 years ago. It has had one break down which was my fault for not getting it serviced for 8 years. Not sure where in world you are. They sell as Frister Rossmann in UK and Europe and Kenmore in the US. I've used it mainly for dressmaking and soft furnishing projects. One more thought on the Bernina have you tried leaving a query / searching on the US Bernina website www.berninausa.com I use them alot. Try and stick with getting the Bernina sorted, I love mine! Sounds like the feed dog height is not set correctly. You could fix it yourself but you would need a dealers service manual and there is a height gauge that should be used although I have set them by eye...and experience.
Bernina's are fantastic machines and I have yet to find even one that is a lemon. Just like finding a good auto mechanic, you need to find someone that actually knows more than how to blow off lint and apply oil.
Your problem should be a low cost quick fix/adjustment that can be accomplished by a knowledgeable and skilled technician.
Good luck finding one!! Bill

The switch for the FEED DOGS is on the left side of the machine.
SOURCE: Bernina 1090 Needle assembly stopped moving down
Hi,
There is a spring loaded catch on the needle bar assembly. It is designed to keep the needle bar from going up and down on command for basting. That way it can take fewer stitches while basting. Anyway, over time, with lint build up, use and not enough oiling, the needle bar clamp release can stick. It is located in the machine cover and hard to get at. It is located right at the point where the needle bar clamp (middle of needle bar) is. It looks pointed on top and about 3/8" tall and SHOULD be able to move front to back (as you are sitting at the machine. If you want to fix it your self, lay the machine on it's back to see up into the needle bar area, you can also see through the threading slot as well.to oil it with SEWING MACHINE oil (read not 3 n1 oil) and try to work it front to back until it breaks free and play with it until it springs back every time you push it. I hope this helps.
