I have a Hitachi DVD Cam that no longer will format a disk. Can you tell me how to fix it?

have you anything on the disk ? i assume not because you have tried formatting it, but if you have create a back up.
go to your dos command window and run chkdsk on the external disk. this may tell you something. run a disk check program on it, eg seatools, hdtune. hdsentinel. i suspect that the hard disk is critically damaged (but maybe not). this might tell you if and which sectors are damaged.
if the disk is within warranty you should contact hitachi and try to get a replacement as soon as possible. (assuming it is a hitachi/hgst [wd] product)

As I explained when we were using the camcorder on that very night, to format the disc in the camcorder, you use settings in the menu system - as to which ones, my memory is a little hazy, thanks to the wine.

the disk itself has the problem, just replace with other new one and your problem is no more

PAL is the format of the dvd and there are two main formats for a dvd and they are PAL or NTSC. The NTSC format is mostly used for the United States, and the PAL format is used more in Europe and Asia. An older dvd player will have the format options in the setup menu for the dvd player, and from the setup menu on the tv screen the dvd player can be set to play the PAL dvd's. However if that is not the problem and the dvd player no longer can tell a PAL from a NTSC format then the dvd player either needs a serious lens cleaning or it has a malfunction. Also, the back of the cover for the dvd should say if it is PAL or NTSC.

TRY THIS SOLUTION. TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF AND CONNECT YOUR CAMERA. NEXT TURN YOUR COMPUTER ON AND WAIT TO SEE IF WIN VISTA WILL " FIND " YOUR CAMERA. IF THIS DOESN'T WORK GO TO THE HITACHI WEBSITE AND SEE IF THEY DON'T HAVE A NEWER VERSION UPDATE TO COVER VISTA. IF THEY DO, JUST DOWNLOAD IT AND YOU SHOULD ALSO BE BACK IN BUSINESS. You I bought also this piece of junk full of craft. The dvd disk can be read in my my but not in my pc. It cant be hook also in the PC. Dont buy it you will regret.

First of all the cause is that this error is caused by the adhesive that holds a small magnetic washer heating up and allowing the washer to affix itself to the metal top of the drive. After this occurs, the system can no longer spin the disk as necessary. A great but temporary fix is to get a old cd or dvd, get a piece of paper put the cd/dvd into the console, and when the disk begins to spin jam the piece of paper into the top of the silver dvd drive. You will hear a grinding noise keep it going for about 15 seconds. That is the fix. A good precaution after the fix is to get a cleaning disk with optional fluid and go through the cleaning routine a good ten times. I would say if you have spare cash get a replacement laser module.
