The black is not printing dark enough. It shows it
The black is not printing dark enough. The cartridges show half full. I tried to print out an e-mail a few days ago and I couldn't even read it. I don't use it very often but even so, it used to print darker

This printer has a separate cartridge for black and colour. When you print pictures, the printer uses all three colours mixed together to make black and does not use the black cartridge. Your black cartridge may be empty or the printhead may just be dried out. Try a head-clean from the maintenance menu and then print a nozzle test. If still no result then try replacing the black cartridge with a new one which has a new printhead as part of the cartridge.
Sometimes, printers use colors from the other cartridges in order to form a deep black colour. It does seem that not enough pure black ink is getting onto the paper.
Can you check that there is enough black ink remaining? If so, go to the print options of the program from which you are trying to printer the image, and set the colour output to black or greyscale only. This may be within an option called Printer Preferences from the Print dialogue window of the program from which you are printing from.
Then, print an image as a test and see if it comes out in black only this time.
I have two problems. Either it won't accept a print job or when it is printing it stops when it is going through the job intermittently. Like for an hour it won't continue then all of a sudden it prints one page then a half hour later another page etc. It is so frustrating.
In fact, I ran a couple more ordinary cleaning sequences with a new cartridge in place, and it prints normally now. The only anomaly is that the ink-level panel still shows the 3eBK as being half-full (which is the level it showed when I discarded the previous cartridge).
i have an mp170 all in one and when you fill the cartriges they dont show up as full cannon put a chip in the cartridge to con people into buying new ones try siting the cartridges in warm water for a few hours then blot the cartridge with tisue paper if it dont blot out the ink the cartride is finnished and you need a new one .To align the cartridge you flick through the menu on the printer not pc screen look for alignment page print this off then you have to pick the dark boxes on the sheet shade the bit next to it and put on your scan bed and click ok it should scan the sheet and reset the alignment
open your list of printers. r/click on the 780 and open properties. fo to the last tab "maintenance" and run cleaning 2 or 3 times then run deep cleaning 2 or 3 times. and see how this helps. If you've never done it before you might want to take out the print head and clean it with alcohol. Take out all the ink like you were changing them then reach in and gently pull out the container that holds the ink. This is the print head. Clean it and replace it, then run clean and deep clean again. run Nozzle check to see how clean it's become and you'll definetly see a difference in your printing.
good luck
