Dell 1710 printer issue. Can anyone help??? Toner and Drum light steady along with the (!) light also steady. According to the manual the drum needs to be replaced. I have replaced the drum and the error state still persists. The toner is relativley new about a month old. I have tryed to reset the drum counter using the operation of leaving the front door open and keeping the cancel button held until the lights cycle. But still unable to get it out of the error state. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you, regards Dave

Did you reset the drum count? You can do this by holding the cancel button until all lights flash clearing the drum count. This should fix the issue.

How do you get rid of the black lines along the edges of the pages

check if the cylinder image shows stripes on it, if so then you have to remove the waste toner cleaning brush to clean the image drum.
and check the laser unit is clean, it is possible to remain deposited toner on it.
check image drum life may also be necessary to replace it.

Dell 1700 laser printer has Low toner and error lights flashing

Leave the printer on. Open the front and hold down the cancel button until all the lights are flashing in sequence. Close the front while still holding the cancel with the lights flashing and then release the cancel button. This should reset it.

Thanks

Help

There is no setting on the 1710 printer to clear the error of a non Dell branded toner being inserted. Some higher end Dell printers do have a setting for Non-Dell branded toner. Not all Dell printers have this setting. Resetting the drum count will have no effect on a non dell branded toner error.

You need to replace the drum and toner to correct the issue. That's the sign of the drum at its end of life.

Dell 1710 Laser Printer

John here, customer advocate at Dell headquarters. The first question I have to ask, is did you refill the cartridge or actually by new Dell branded cartridges. If the answer is the latter, then try the following: Locate the drum contacts on the underside of the drum and clean them off with a lint free cloth. If you notice they are damaged, well, that would be the problem. If they are not damaged, there is probably a problem with the electronics of the printer. In that case, you'd want to call us up and get the thing exchanged if it's under warranty, or replaced if it isn't. John Dell Customer Advocate
