It could be that your dimmer control got pushed all the way to the bottom.

Try this: Touch Settings > Display > Brightness and move the slider to at least the middle. If this doesn't work then perhaps your backlighting lights have failed

You may have to reset it. With the device turned off, press and hold the volume down button, and then briefly press the power button. - Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the volume down button. - Press volume down to select clear storage, and then press power. - Press volume up to start the factory reset.

Another way to adjust the screen brightness is to hold down the Functin key (blue, Fn) and then repeatedly press the up or down arrows (which also show the symbol for screen brightness on the keys in blue.)
