Take the wand hose off the washer itself and you will likely find a filter outfit that gets plugged up. Take it out and clean it real good. Mine was full of stuff out of the hose that gets in when the hose lays on the ground and stuff gets in. Also if hose has been used to drain anything. My filter was plugged and with the pressure it created the washer would not shut off. There could be a filter in the wand area in some models.

SOURCE: pressure washer stalls out when wand nozzle is released

common for not starting unless trigger engaged as you are turning the pump as well as engine creating pressure,as for stalling pump has unloader valve which is probably in need of grease(use good silicone grease)this allows water to ciculate when trigger released.

SOURCE: Karcher K 3.68M Electric Pressure Washer. Wand trigger Locks Up.

Sounds like the pressure valve is broken thats why you cant depress the trigger , the valve is on the pump , i would suggest taking it to a repair shop as they are fiddly things to fix

SOURCE: Turn water on then actuate wand trigger. Pressure

You gave a very close solution yourself for the problem. But other leakages can cause such symtoms.Forexample a leaking head or a leaking chemical inlet. These can be caused because the spill valve (pressure control valve) is stuck. When this valve stucks it will leave a micro switch ON. So the machine keeps working with the gun closed. This will in turn creat internal pressure and damages the head, valves and chemical non-return and even damage outlet hose. So besides fixing the leakages you must check and service the spill valve. I often replace the spill valve. One must also checks if the micro switch is faulty. Now very important that what you mentioned that the machine cycles at one minute intervals, with trigger closed...this is most probably always the spill valve fault. If you open machine you see a place where there is a wire..this belongs to the micro switch...under you find the spill valve. Intake and suction valves may now also have a fault. Also there are systems with non-return valves at the machine outlet. You have to tackle by elimination. Fix the leakage..then tackle spill valve and micro switch.

SOURCE: My electric Karcher pressure washer does not shut off.

this can be that you need to bleed the system of air or that there is a problem with your trigger gun sticking when you release the trigger.
These are two things I would check before you go into the machine.

Have you tried servicing the motor. Fresh air filter, new fuel filter and a fresh spark plug? That will help narrow down what the problem could be.

Karcher electric power washer480 .pump runs on when trigger is released there are no leaks . Also i can not turn machine off at the main switch.

If you are unable to shut off the pressure from the wand, there may be an issue with the unloader valve that is stopping it from switching into bypass mode when the trigger wand is released. The unloader valve is designed to respond to the spike in pressure created when the trigger wand is released, and to divert the flow of water coming from the pump to bypass the pressure hose and flow back into the intake end of the pump. If the unloader valve fails to switch into bypass mode, water may continue to flow out of the trigger wand. This may also cause damage to the wand. If you are unable to shut off the pressure from your power washer, stop the engine and discontinue use immediately. The unloader valve should be removed and possibly replaced if found to be malfunctioning. The inability to stop the flow of high-pressure water from the wand can be dangerous and should be fixed before continuing to use the machine.

Pressure washer will not shut off when water trigger on wand is released

Sharon, you first should make sure you have no connection/leaks any where. There is a pressure switch inside the pump, which controls when the motor turns on and off. Leaks in pressure causes the pressure switch to activate the motor. Leaks are the biggest contributor to a cycling machine. If no leaks, the pressure switch is defective. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Karcher K2.36 motor cut out and won't restart

Yes, the water should be turned on first but if it only ran for a minute or two it should be OK. Most late model pressure washers have an automatic shutoff when the trigger on the wand is released. Turn on the water and then the machine and then squeeze the trigger on the handle of the wand and the motor should start as soon as the air is cleared from the line by the flowing water (about 10 seconds). If the unit was put away wet last season you may need to clean the nozzle with a piece of wire too.

Karcher k1 leaking from inside casing.

The most likely issue, which seems to occur alot with karcher, is a cracked water pump. What happens is that as you release the trigger on the handle, the rise in pressure should cut off the motor, but as it also cuts off the water flow at the wand end and the motor spins a few more revs until it stops, then there is a huge pressure glitch which blows apart the weak plastic pumps that they use. Since the plastic cracks it is very difficult to repair and the only option is to go and buy another. BUT...this time tape up the trigger on the handle so it is always on and then it won't blow itself up. Just use the unit on/off switch to turn the motor on and off.

Karcher pressure washer trigger problem

The wands that it will not run with would most likley have a little dirt in the tip of the nozzle. This would not allow the water to flow through in turn activating the pressure switch and shutting the machine down

Karcher 2400 psi blaster When you release the trigger it will not pick up pressure when you use it again

To determine if your problem is due to an easily replaceable part, follow these steps:

1. Connect the water supply hose, the pressure hose, and the wand WITHOUT any nozzle tip.

2. Turn on the water supply, and press the trigger until water is smoothly running out of the nozzle
after any air is all purged out. Release the nozzle trigger.

3. Start the engine, and let it warm up for about 30 seconds.

4. With the engine running smoothly, press the nozzle trigger. The water should flow out of the nozzle (without the tip installed) at a faster rate, while the engine noticeably loads down as it used to do before your "no pressure" problem. If it does not load down, turn it OFF, and disconnect everything, and contact a Karcher repair facility.

5. If the engine does load down, release the trigger, and install one of the nozzle tips (not the black one).

6. Press the trigger, and the engine should load down, and you should have normal pressure from the wand. After you release the trigger and press it again, you will probably again have no pressure, and the engine will not load down. Removing the nozzle tip, pressing & releasing the trigger, and re-installing the tip should give you normal pressure again, but releasing the trigger will cause no pressure until you again remove the tip, press the trigger, and re-install the tip.

This is caused by a bad UNLOADER VALVE, which is located under a black cap with a metal button on it located on the top front of the pump. I don't know if you can purchase the replaceable parts from a Karcher repair shop, but when a neighbor & I took his washer to a repair place, it looked pretty simple to do this repair, and he was charged about $60 to replace a $5 (maybe) part, and it took about 5 minutes.
