Window 7 problem cannot detect my video cam

After connecting the Camcorder to the Computer with the Firewire/i.LINK, turn ON the Camcorder.
Keep the Camcorder in Playback mode.
Start the Moviemaker Software which is pre-installed in the Windows.
Check whether the Camcorder is recognized as the Video Device.

If the Camcorder is not recognized, then check whether it works with other Computer or not.
You may also try using a different i.LINK cable that is compatible with the Sony Camcorder.
Sony Camcorder have 4 pin DV Interface and the Computers may have either 4pin or 6-pin i.LINK/Firewire port. So make sure that you are using the correct cable.

Panasonic PV-GS35 will not connect to iMac, so can't upload video from mini DV cassettes into iMovie. when I connect with my USB cable, nothing shows up on the iMac saying that the camera or a "N0_NAME"...

So if it's miniDV and you have a firewire cable, it should work. Have you followed this sequence:
If your battery is sufficiently charged to run the cam for an hour's worth of tape, fine, otherwise connect cam to AC power. With cam OFF, connect Firewire cable to Mac and cam. Open iMovie, name your project and create so that the viewer screen comes up. Turn on the cam. At this point, your Mac should, within moments, say "camera connected". Cam needs to be set on "playback" mode for capture. Then click "import" button and your Mac will control the cam.

If you still get a "no camera connected" you have to consider the possibility that either the firewire cable is bad or the firewire port on cam or Mac is bad. If you have more than one firewire port on your Mac, try switching. An Apple store should be able to help you determine if you have a bad cable or cam port, if you take both in to try on their Mac. Hope this gets you on track.

Need to know how to transfer video from digital camera to computer

To transfer camcorder video to computer, you need the following:- 1. Firewire cable (it looks similar to the USB cable, but has very high speed capability)
2. Appropriate software/application.
If a firewire cable did not come with your camcorder then see that purchase one right away, ‘cause you will always need it for this purpose. Then you should have a video editing software like Adobe Premiere or Ulead installed on your system. Adobe Premiere is recommended for its speed.
Once you have these in place, all you need do is connect the camcorder to your computer via firewire, have your video editing application/program open, and simply playback. You will observe that the playback on the camcorder is at the same time being shown on the computer screen within the application. While the mini DV tape is playing back click on capture on the video editing application you are doing the playback from, i.e. Adobe Premiere, Ulead etc.

I hook my cam corder up to the my tv it will play but no sound

You are likely using the S-Video cable (multi-pin cable that connects to the front of the camera below the spotlight). This cable carries video but not audio. To get audio, use the multi RCA to 1/8" adapter (has red, yellow, and white cables and plugs into the side of the camera)
